(Wow im on a topic rampage)

I'm supposed to be meeting my future mother in law soon and my fiance [Who is white] warned me that his mother may point out the fact that im "coloured" and may not support the engagement. And i told him that was bullshit for her to even atempt to sit there and call me that colured girl. But he basically sat there and said that i souldent let it bother me because shes old and used to those kind of ways.WTF the woman blogs like crazy and even makes her own layout templates but shes too old to learn some tolerance to my race because shes OLD?Are you f**king kidding me?He in turn told me i was overreacting to this and said that she dosnt have to learn any better because she was a nurse for some veterans hospital and that "you cant teach a old dog new tricks"

Oh really? But you can teach a old dog how to code a DIV layout eh?

Should we really be so forgiving to older people because its something they learned from when they were younger and we cant really help about the way they think and treat other races, religions or sexual orentation?
Should I be known as the colured girl that seduced her son rather then the girl who her son fell in love with?

Actually it might work better in debate..idk..

Oh man! blink.gif I find it hard because...it just seems unfair when people judge and you know that's how they grew up. Personally, tho, she should at least try to show some support towards you two. He loves you and she should be happy her son will be happy with you. happy.gif

Wow thats a tough question blink.gif I personally think that its wrong to judge other people by their race, religion, background. Although, if thats the way she was brought up discrimminating another race, religion, background theirs really nothing you can do because maybe she doesent know better? I think she should at least try to support you to and try to understand why he fell in love with you, afterall your going to be her daughter-in-law.

They should at least try to be respectful, and you have a right to speak up if she's not treating you right because of your race. Using someone's age as a scapegoat is just another way of saying they're too lazy to try and be polite. Everyone deserves common courtesy.

If she's an adult, she can learn new tricks but like the other said that's a hard question. I have this problem with my grandma. She don't believe in having a child before marriage or sex but a lot change since her time and she can't accept that a women can be a minister. But she set her ways and you can't change that. You can't tell a old person nothing nor teach.

in my opinion, all a perfect world really needs is tolerance. i think the best you can do is just hope that maybe eventually she'll change her views about you. she's not the deciding factor in whether you guys can get married or not, it's YOUR choices, not hers.

Well the older you are, its harder to change your views on.. things..thats why kids /teens learn faster and teachers and stuff are trying to teach you not to be racist. But I'm not saying that old people can't change their ways
