How to make icon.

What's the best size to use?

wow! okay where to start.. theyre usually 100x100 px. are you using an image base or text, or what? you can colorize your image to make it more interesting and eyecatching, like on most icons, by
colorizing
try color bubbles, or do gradients, patterns.. they make it a lot more interesting in my opinion. get some inspiration, scroll through the icon section (but dont copy!) for interesting ideas. dont do anything.. cliche, because that's really no fun and it wont have that wow! factor. and you can download free brushes or free brushes for icons specifically, at

which is my favorite but you can get them other places too. always be sure to credit! oh and you cant forget borders. usually its just a basic, 1px black border, [select all>shrink by 1px>select invert is how i do it. i have gimp, btw] but you can go out of the norm with different borders. just nothing too huge, because you only have 100x100px to work with, dont forget. cB has a few tutorials but not many. i just mess around with the shrinking and growing selection. you can download different fonts for the text, if youre doing text. you can warp it, anything you want - its up to you, basically.
