I just recently got a camera and it kind of dropped. Now the lens is sticking out and it won't close. When I press the on/off button nothing happens except the light flashes and you can sort of see the screen go from black to a dark shade of gray. I'm not sure if my warranty/plan thing covers this but if it doesn't, do you know where/how I can get it fixed and about how much it'll be? I haven't exactly told my parents about it yet cause they'll flip out on me and the camera isn't even two months old yet. pinch.gif

Oh man, the lens is a pretty delicate (and important) part of the camera. I'm not quite sure where you could get this repaired or anything, but fixing up the lenses tend to be pricey.

Yikes. I'm not expert at these camera things, but I'm sure you should just check up with what the warranty says about it. But as Arjuna says, the lens will be pricey.

I had to buy a new camera when someone dropped my old compact digital on its lens.

(Which is funny, because that's partially why I got into photography.)

I can't afford a new camera sad.gif But, on the bright side, my dads friend is a photographer and he also specializes in computers and such so maybe i can get him to fix it if my warranty thing doesn't work out.

if it doesnt close dont force it to close. um sand got into my camera making the lens not able to close back. i had to fix my camera at the place that sony told me to take it. it was expensive. but luckily it was less than a year so i got it fixed for free. but they were going to charge me 170.

also my other friend broke her camera cause her friend grabbed it and pushed the lens in.

so it would be hard to fix it or expensive.

um is your camera less than a year cause if it is it is most likely under manufacturer's warranty then you can get it fixed for free. but if not u should try going to a camera place where they do repairs. thats all the advice i have to give.

Yeah it hasn't even been two months yet. I just hope I can get it fixed and my parents won't have to find out about this whole situation pinch.gif

^ lol aww. how old are you. i had to do that a lot too. but eventually i had to tell them.

2 months you should be good. try finding out on the company of the camera's website how to get it fixed. becuase its still under manufacturers warranty.

thats exactly what happened to my friend. they took into the shop, but the overall price for replacement was more than the prive they paid for it (it was over $200).

I called up the manufacturer's and they said that I have to send in my camera by mail. Then they'll check on it and see if my problems fall under my warranty cause the warranty that I have doesn't cover drops/water damage. And this just happened to be from a drop. They said that if the warranty doesn't cover the damage, from what I explained through the phone it would be either 90 or 130 dollars.

After I told my parents, they went crazy. My mom was so upset she was like "If you have to pay money then forget it, you can just forget about the camera and throw it out. You're so irresponsible blahblah."

I hate it when my parents are mad/disappointed in me. It makes me so mad and frustrated at myself for being so careless. Oh and I'm 15.

Mom came home, tossed the camera around and ended up messing up the lens even more. Great, isn't it?
By any chance is there a difference if the manufacturer's fixed it compared to if I took it to a camera repair store?

If you broke the mechanical parts, the sensor, or the glass, just throw it out. Kids shouldn't be playing around with expensive electronics anyway if they aren't responsible.

You'll probably be better of just buying a new camera.

go ahead and send it back anyways. they don't cover "drops", but why tell them that?

just be like... it won't turn on, and i don't know why.
