The Empty. Options

I normally do not write poems, but I'm feeling pretty sad right now, so here's my latest, dedicated to a friend graduating and moving away:



Empty. Hollow.
The ache in my heart mourns the end of a three year bonding,
delicate ropes knotted in patterns to celebrate the ties between us,
and then slashed, threads tearing apart, by the seaman's rough saltwater hands.

This deep black hole stretches forever on,
yet my feelings are not infinite.
Compassion, hope and love given in all due payments,
now ache from debt and overuse.

Dusty fingerprints on the shelf are
proof of what we've gone through, my friend;
the knots and tangles of the tale of a three year bonding.

I love you.
So do not despair-
for when you yearn to fill the empty and grow to hate the empty
I will be here, yearning to fill the empty and hating the empty.
Your abscence is more heavy than the prescence,
but the memories are more lasting than the jokes.
Hold me in your arms as you fly away, fly, fly away..

My friends are moving away to college, and I'm going to stay for the first year at the local college here, and we had quite, sporadic friendships.

Your abscence is more heavy than the prescence,
but the memories are more lasting than the jokes.

I will miss them so much.
