Me and a friend of mine like to get into deep discussions about religion and so on and so forth. Just so that ya'll know where I stand, I am a christian...non denominational. I dont completely believe in certain aspects of organized religion...church is not my forte much lately. Anyways, to the point...

We were discussing how it seems to us that atheists seem to be angry. Either at Christians or just at the world in general. I like to do research on different religions and have explored many different options. I am simply inquiring about atheists just so I can understand more.

Do you think atheists are angry?
Are you atheist? Are you angry?

Explain why and tell me a little about what you believe so that I can understand.

Once again, please be respectful in everything you say and do me a favor and put a little thought into it...dont respond with a simple statement like "christians are hypocrites" or something like that.

Thanks...

Atheists aren't really angry, more frustrated at people who think they know everything. _smile.gif

Atheists are as angry as much as Christians (believers in general) are angry. Are we done with this thread now?

I am atheist.
I am angry at the world...for being too Christian. It's not that atheists are angry, they're just fed up with religion. (Note that I am speaking for myself, and using "they're" loosely). I believe religion is bogus. Thus, when people believe that Mary was actually a "virgin", I get angry.

It's totally obvious that Mary slept around.

I am an atheist and I am not angry at the world nor am I angry at Christians. I have my beliefs and they have theirs. Done!

True that. It's so hard to not be angry sometimes when 33% of the world believes in this jargon is Christian.

One of my (ex) friends was trying to shove his beliefs down my throat yesterday which kind of brought me to this point of resentment. Needless to say, I brought counter points to all his and stunned him to silence. I question if he's half as strong a Christian as he was after I gave him a piece of my mind.

I think atheist are just expressing themselves like
everyone else does (i.e. christians, buddhist)
it's a free country, they can talk like us
the have things to say, and we also need to listen

so no, they aren't angry

No, I don't think they are necessarily "angry"

Just sick of their 'religeon' being questioned
Just like everyone else.

So I guess you could say everyone is "angry" in a sense then. mellow.gif

Categorizing all people who have atheistic beliefs and calling them angry makes one look like a bigot. That would be like saying, "Are all Muslim's radicals who have terroristic intentions?"

I once had atheistic thoughts, but never did I consider myself an angry person. I was just not fond of believing in something that couldn't be proven or reasoned.

I know a few atheists and they are not angrey, they just don't agree with the bible and what it has to say. You have to admit religion can sometimes get complicated.

i think atheists and people with religious believes are both good as long as they are shown respect, when they aren't they get angry

i don't know any atheists who are angry
they get angry, just like christian people get angry

Actually when people disrespected me for being an atheist, I decided they weren't worth the time of day.

I'm atheist. I'm not angry. I don't hate "god", I just don't believe there is a "god" who created all of us, etc. I believe in the scientific explanations, etc.

some are, some aren't.
it's a 50/50 deal. there's never going to be a general answer.
i, personally, am atheist. generally, yes, i am angry at the world, but my "religious status" has nothing to do with it.
of course, religion overall is part of it, who likes people wandering around shoving their religion down your throat? i don't. i'm sure as hell nobody else on this earth does. (don't think i'm implying to everyone...sorry if this offends.)
most people who are atheist usually grew up around no religion, or grew up around too much and feel stressed about it.-that's basically the only point that will remain through this debate.

50/50? most people grew up around no religion?
I could go around making statements I can't back up too, but those don't go over too well in a debate.

I grew up in a Lutheran family and I became atheistic for a bit. During that time, I was never angry w/ the world. If I had anything to be angry with, it was something that I did wrong, and found it stupid to pin that on the world.
