" I do understand you're trying to say, but stil they are your parents Andrew. God gave them to you" I said. "But P-P-P-Pastor" he said as he cried. I ask him, " would you like to hear a story similar to yours?" He was sinlent for a moment, but he answered and said "Yes Pator".
In the evening of March 14, 1962, a widow gave birth. She was very happy because she never expected her son to be that healthy.. But behind her happiness, sadness filled her heart for she knew that her responsibilities and her work as a laundry woman and a mother at the same time would be much heavier. yet as a christian she her hopes on God and prayed that her son will grow according to God's will. Few years passed, and know her son was start his schoolings. This was when her difficulties begun to multiple. She did not have enough money because of her "hand to mouth" existance. However because of her faith, she stil pursued her dream that her sonh will finish his education and with God's help. One day when her son was already in school, he was told by the schoool mistress to bring his parents with him the next day. Unfortunately her son didn't told her hat he was told. "But Pastor , why didn't he tell her mother what his school mistress told him?" Andrew interupted. "becuase he was ashamed of his mother" I said. "Ashemed? But why"? he wondered. "Well, simply because they are poor and his mother was only a laundry woman" I said. Since she didn't know that she had to go with her son to school, she continued to wash her neigbors clothes to earm money. When her son entered the room, his school mistress asked him where his mother was. He leid and said Umm.. she is sic! in addtion, she wants to say sorry. She really can't make it. Time went so fast. her son is already in high school. She thank God so much because even though they were poor, her son can stil study. Sadly because she always wash and ironed clothes, her body was getting weaker and weaker as the days go on. Stil, she placed her trust in God and allow him to do his will for thier lives. One time when her son was having his breakfast with his friends, one of his friends said. "Hey guys! My father was promoted yesterday. He is now the senior Vice-President of their company" suddenly his fiend asked. "hey, where are your parents? I have not see them since you started studying here. Hwere are they? Are they out of the country?" He was silent at first and answered and lied. " becasue.... because they are already dead that's why...." "he said that pastor? that is not right! and to think he is a christian". he fiercely told me. after what andrew said. I continued the story. After a year his son graduated. She was so glad becausea part of her dream had been fulfilled, and her son was the valedictorian of thier class just like in his elemantary years. She really thanksed God for being faithfull to them. Months passed, her son was nowin college taking up B.S Civil Engineering. Being a valedictorian in high school, he was able to get a 100% discount of his tuition fees, which helped her a lot. She was stil doing laundry as thier source of income. Now her health was deteriorating. But because she really wanted to fulfill her dreams, she didn't mind her health, but rather continued to trust God and do her job cheerfully. Graduation day was nearing. her son was aldready preparing for that grand day. One day, she looked for him because he did not have classes very friday. She went back outside to ask her son to help her deliver clothes she had washed. Unfortunately, she didn't find him. Instead, she found jason. her son's best friend. She ask jason where her son was. Jason said. "He's in our schoo". "Huh? why" she ask. "Because it is our Graduation DAy today" jason said. After jason said that, she continued to walk towards school hoping that she stil see her son march. When she got to the school's auditorium, the guards on duty didn't allow her to enter because she wasn't on the official list. Because of what the gurads did he called her son when she saw him on stage, delivering his speech. But he didn't mind her and continue with his speech. She forced the guards to let her in. But the guards block the entrance. Out of desperation, she begaun to shout, "Let me in! I want to see my son! Let me in!" this created a commotion among the audeince. When this was heard, one of his teachers asked him. "Didn't you say your parents were dead? But who's that woman calling you her son?" He was dumbfounded. After a while, he spoke over the microphone. I do not know know her! Please take her away! She is an imposter! Take her away!" after his mother heard this. She went home with a grieving heart. She never thought that his son would do this to her after all she had done. After her son realized what he did, he asked God for forgiveness. When he got home, he saw her mother at the table with her hand in her arms as if she was asleep with an open bible beside her. He approuched her asking forgiveness for what he did all those years. But, it was too late. His mother died of heart attact. He cried and embanced her, as he never did before. As she was embracing her, he noticed his mother's bible. He read the verse that were highlighted. I said "Children, obey your parents in the lorad...Honor thy father and mother.... and thou mayest live long on earth" that was the turning point of his life. He repented of his sins and said "If only it's not too late...." "Pastor, do you know this young man?" Anddrew asked while crying. "Yes, I know him. He is Mr. Joseph Aaron Santos". I said. Andrew was not able to speakfor a few minutes. He could not believe what he heard. When I broke the silence, I said " You don't believe me? He ask in disbelief. "Yes, it was me. I am the young man in the story ans that woman is my mother. Pleace learn from my mistakes. Andrew. All I can advive you is that you should love your parents and you should be happy because they are stil alive. Express to them your love and affection while they are stil here. Not when they are already gone" I said as we stood and went out my office. ==== the end===== I miss my mom ![]() |
