QUOTE The justices, voting 5-4, said the 2003 Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act is constitutional even though it lacks an exception for cases posing a risk to the mother's health. Victory what? It doesn't make too much sense to ban a medical procedure that saves lifes because of purely moral reasons. I would understand a tighter regulation of D&X abortions since they are a dangerous procedure, but a ban of this order is plain nucking futty. |

Got me at:
QUOTE The U.S. Supreme Court upheld a law that makes it a crime to perform ``partial birth'' abortions, allowing the first nationwide ban on a procedure as two justices named by President George W. Bush tipped the balance. Add to that the tipped balance in the addition of "partial birth" to the process. QUOTE In dissent, Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg called the ruling ``alarming'' and took the unusual step of reading a summary of her opinion from the bench. She pointed to the conclusion of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists that the disputed procedure was proper in some cases. So much for listening to people who actually know what they're talking about. |

For the record, the term "Partial-birth abortion" is quite of a nasty euphemism; or should we say "The doctor is going to disembowel me" if we were to undergo an appendicectomy?

Or "The doctor hacked into my abdomen and uterus to deliver my child" in reference to a cesarean. Subjective verbiage ad valorem for the cause. |

I think more people would be against it if it was called "pull the baby out of womb and crack its skull open, while sucking the brains out with a vacuum" would be a more accurate name, wouldn't you think? |

Not really since I am fine with using the medical terms that define each step of the Dilation and Extraction procedure. Mainly because they are void of all sort of implications, and therefore are likely to be more accurate. Science can be like that, unemotional but precise. |

I think this is fine, to be completely honest. I can agree where regular abortions would cause more and issue. They kill a fetus in partial birth, not an embryo. Nowadays, science has advanced enough for a mother to know if something's wrong with the baby, or the risk of her life if she goes through with the pregnancy/labor/delivery that there shouldn't be a need for partial birth abortions.

Not all of the fetus' illnesses that occur during a pregnancy can be detected during the first 2 trimesters. Furthermore, in those cases where an abortion is required during the last trimester (such as a fetus suffering from hydrocephalus), ID&X is the less intrusive abortive procedure, therefore it can be the safest.
Ultimately it should be a medical decision whether it is necessary to perform it or not. I don't trust Morality's clinic eye, it is rather myopic. |
