Its deffinately out of line to say someone is going to "burn in hell" because they dont believe the same thing you do. As long as the person has lead a good life, whos to say they wont go to heaven? (or wherever). Its even in the Catholic catechism that people of other faiths are not condemned to hell.

i believe in Him, because He IS the Truth...but i wanna go to Heaven...btw when ur burning in hell, ur idea about that is gonna change

Hmm, one can easily counter that with: when you die and not know heaven nor hell, then it'd be too late to change your mind because.. you're dead.

Okay, I'm not that mean, so I will tell you to believe what you want, but it's rude to curse a person to Hell only because their belief is different from yours. Very rude, and it shows poor sportsmanship...

Eh, I guess that's what religion does to people: it makes them even more prideful and meaner than they already are. Oh well, I'm glad I don't have a religion.

he's the truth, huh? i've never heard so many valid versions of the truth about anything ever.

btw, "you're gunna burn in hell" isn't a very flettering way to show a christian attitude. if you want to spread the word of "god" they being positive about it and when they say "no" leave them alone about it. "you're gunna burn in hell" just makes me want to burn churches and worship satan.

that could be.

OR it could also be that believers need time to realise that their is no god. i know it took me some 13 years.

Vice versa, vice versa tongue.gif.

I love how you said "unbelievers like you just need time". I think discrimination needs time to to get fixed too, but since it's in the heart of everyone who holds a differing opinion, it's hard very hard to do so.

So, instead of trying to be a miss goody two shoes (pretending to know it all) who discriminates against her fellow man, I'm just going to hope that you realize, that THOMAS PAINE was a DIEST and believed the Bible to be false.

In your face.

Also, if you've read "Common Sense", then you'd know that he mostly means converts in logic, not religion, thank you very much.

Okay... haha, believe what you want, have faith in it, I know I do. rolleyes.gif

Hopefully, 10 years from now, you'd be a little more respectful of the world around you, including all the different faiths and beliefs, and intelligent enough to try research before making a point.

In the words of Paine "the Deist needs none of those tricks and shows called miracles to confirm his faith, for what can be a greater miracle than the creation itself, and his own existence?"

And that's the one part of Deism I absolutely love and agree with wholeheartedly.

On the real(i love that song)

You do not say someone is going to go to hell because you do not know what is in their future and itsn't even a humans place to try and say that to someone. I'm not pointing anyone out, but tactfulness, respect, and being unhypocritical are great virtues.

wow, i'm mighty suprised that some arrogant christian didn't tell me "i'm going to pray for you"

the idea of a life after death is really enticing, but the other ideals of christianity just suck.

like the you're going to burn if you don't convert thing.

it's not very nice or merciful. and neither is the god you are tring to get me to worship.

oh yea, they did. i think there was one in the reasons that nonchristians should convert thread too.

but i ment in response to my comment...
"do i really want to be in heaven, 'enjoying the presence' of a god who would condemn a person to eternal tourture simply for not beliving in him? is this a merciful god?

if everything you belive, all of it, if all of what you belive (if you belive everything the bible says), then i would rather burn. "

That's what got me against most religions: their forceful and opressive nature.

So, I see what you mean, but it's the people who make religion into a bad thing, not the diety of that religion. I don't know, God sounds like a pretty cool guy, so I doubt He'd sent good non-believers to Hell just because we choose free will.

God is here for you
And you were made for him
He'll give you more of everything
Cause he has always loved you
His promises are true

-Come as you are by Jaci Velasquez

You can't judge God based on the Christians. We are human and we have faults. There are so many ways of how things can be. Many people in the church may be "fake" or whatever. You have to look for those sincere people and just have faith in the Lord.

Btw, maybe you should take a look at the bible and try to back up what you say.

why should i look to a fiction book to back up my arguments? why should i look to a book that calls me an evil person, and condemns me to an eternity in hell?

from what people tell me, i see the bible is a load of ____ written by humans. if it is the voice of god, then i want nothing to do with this merciless god.

I agree that you cannot judge God by the actions of His followers, because it isn't fair to do so. But the Bible is only an extension of God's followers, because they are its authors.

You may say that the Bible is sacred and that it contains the words of God, but if many people in the Church are "fake", then how do you ensure that the words of God in the Bible, written by "fake" followers, are true?

QUOTE(Arimalka @ Jul 24 2004, 11:05 AM)
Agreed.

I think God, and all religions actually, were just made so people could have something to depend on and look to for guidance. And I personally think that praying to "God" gets you nowhere in life. If you want something, you have to go out and make it happen for yourself. Religion divides people, and we don't need that in today's world. We don't need a bunch of bible-hugging lunatics for this crazy world to function. People need to be united, not separated. Look at all the wars that have gone on and are still going on today, that are based on "religion"?

-Sarah

Well said. I think some people think that life is so difficult without believing in a supernatural figure I scoff at... I don't know. It really seems that religion is part of the problems, when it's supposed to help people to solve the problems.

I just want to post this in here ....

An atheist professor of philosophy speaks to his class on the problem science has with God, The Almighty.

He asks one of his new Christian students to stand and.....

Professor: You are a Christian, aren't you, son?

Student : Yes, sir.

Prof: So you believe in God?

Student : Absolutely, sir.

Prof: Is God good?

Student : Sure.

Prof: Is God all-powerful?

Student : Yes.

Prof: My brother died of cancer even though he prayed to God to
heal him.
Most of us would attempt to help others who are ill. But God
didn't.
How is this God good then? Hmm?

(Student is silent.)

Prof: You can't answer, can you? Let's start again, young fella.
Is God good?

Student :Yes.

Prof: Is Satan good?

Student : No.

Prof: Where does Satan come from?

Student : From...God...

Prof: That's right. Tell me son, is there evil in this world?

Student : Yes.

Prof: Evil is everywhere, isn't it? And God did make everything.
Correct?

Student : Yes.

Prof: So who created evil?

(Student does not answer.)

Prof: Is there sickness? Immorality? Hatred? Ugliness?
All these terrible things exist in the world, don't they?

Student :Yes, sir.

Prof: So, who created them?

(Student has no answer.)

Prof: Science says you have 5 senses you use to identify and
observe the
world around you. Tell me, son...Have you ever seen God?

Student: No, sir.

Prof: Tell us if you have ever heard your God?

Student : No , sir.

Prof: Have you ever felt your God, tasted your God, smelt your
God?
Have you ever had any sensory perception of God for that matter?

Student : No, sir. I'm afraid I haven't.

Prof: Yet you still believe in Him?

Student : Yes.

Prof: According to empirical, testable, demonstrable protocol,
science says
your GOD doesn't exist. What do you say to that, son?

Student : Nothing. I only have my faith.

Prof: Yes. Faith. And that is the problem science has.

Student : Professor, is there such a thing as heat?

Prof: Yes.

Student : And is there such a thing as cold?

Prof: Yes.

Student : No sir. There isn't.

(The lecture theatre becomes very quiet with this turn of
events.)

Student : Sir, you can have lots of heat, even more heat,
superheat, mega heat,
white heat, a little heat or no heat. But we don't have anything
called cold.
We can hit 458 degrees below zero which is no heat, but we can't
go
any further after that. There is no such thing as cold. Cold is
only a word we
use to describe the absence of heat. We cannot measure cold.
Heat is energy. Cold is not the opposite of heat, sir, just the
absence of it.

(There is pin-drop silence in the lecture theatre.)

Student : What about darkness, Professor? Is there such a thing
as darkness?

Prof: Yes. What is night if there isn't darkness?

Student : You're wrong again, sir. Darkness is the absence of
something.
You can have low light, normal light, bright light, flashing
light....But if you
have no light constantly, you have nothing and it's called
darkness, isn't it?
In reality, darkness isn't. If it were you would be able to make
darkness
darker, wouldn't you?

Prof: So what is the point you are making, young man?

Student : Sir, my point is your philosophical premise is flawed.

Prof: Flawed? Can you explain how?

Student : Sir, you are working on the premise of duality.
You argue there is life and then there is death, a good God and a
bad God.
You are viewing the concept of God as something finite,
something we can measure.
Sir, science can't even explain a thought. It uses electricity
and magnetism,
but has never seen, much less fully understood either one. To
view death as
the opposite of life is to be ignorant of the fact that death
cannot exist as a
substantive thing. Death is not the opposite of life: just the
absence of it.
Now tell me, Professor. Do you teach your students that they
evolved from a
monkey?

Prof: If you are referring to the natural evolutionary process,
yes, of course, I do.

Student : Have you ever observed evolution with your own eyes,
sir?

(The Professor shakes his head with a smile, beginning to realize
where the
argument is going.)

Student : Since no one has ever observed the process of evolution
at work and
cannot even prove that this process is an on-going endeavour, are
you not
teaching your opinion, sir? Are you not a scientist but a
preacher?

(The class is in uproar.)

Student : Is there anyone in the class who has ever seen the
Professor's brain?

(The class breaks out into laughter.)

Student : Is there anyone here who has ever heard the Professor's
brain, felt it,
touched or smelt it?.....No one appears to have done so.
So, according to the established rules of empirical, stable,
demonstrable
protocol, science says that you have no brain, sir.
With all due respect, sir, how do we then trust your lectures,
sir?

(The room is silent. The professor stares at the student, his
face
unfathomable.)

Prof: I guess you'll have to take them on faith, son.

Student : That is it sir.. The link between man & god is FAITH.
That is all that keeps things moving & alive.

NB:
I believe you have enjoyed the conversation...and if so...you'll
probably want your friends/colleagues to enjoy the same...won't
you?...forward them to increase their knowledge...

NB:
I believe you have enjoyed the conversation...and if so...you'll

you?...forward them to increase their knowledge...
