Contributing Createblog Buddy Icons Options

As Kara said, I can imagine a lot of jocked submissions. But we risk that any form of submissions, so I think it'd be great if we gave buddy icons a try. (:

I think they're referring to things like these. For AIM and such.

Perhaps if people starting tagging them as "buddy icons"? I'm not sure if there's a big enough contributing group of people that do these. Maybe there are and there just isn't a home for them so they're not submitting them.

I guess what they're asking for is a seperate category aside from avatars specifically for buddy icons. Avatars typically have larger dimensions and can vary as far as size goes, whereas buddy icons are normally smaller (either 48x48 or 64x64, it's been way too long since I've even used a buddy icon so I can't even begin to tell you the correct dimensions).

I wouldn't mind having another category for buddy icons, or even having a category for "icons" and then separating it into two subcategories, avatars and buddy icons.

Since that section is named Avatars/Icons I thought it all could fit into that global category. That being clarified now, it could be a good idea that would make the graphics section be more complete and organized.

The current category has 299 pages worth of submissions; keeping in mind that not all of them are icons, it seems there is a sufficient number of people submitting those to keep a hypothetical "Buddy Icons" category alive, as well as a separate one for Avatars.

However, this is purely assumption and it would be wise to wait on the opinions of the Design Staff.

I totally agree that that section should be more organized, at least in terms of size. Buddy icons are smaller right? (Sorry I don't use AIM - I meebo to get to CBC) And the general avatar size is 100x100px. But why are there images that are larger? It's sort of random to see once like three times as big as the normal size (unless I'm missing out on some site that has avatars that huge...)

In any case it's not a bad idea to add in some subfolders just to make it easier for users to find icons they need.

Haha tell me about it, I have to resort to finding one loose about the forums. The thing with the jocking, there IS a high chance of it. I guess you can just put a note under saying if its jocked, PM a mod and they'll remove it.

I don't really see a point, people can even take regular icons and just set them as their aim icon. Although I suppose people could submit them anyway just under an icon category unless Jusun wants to make a buddy icon or AIM icon category.

But I think it will bring more people in and its not to much work so its a big pro rather then the small cons.


Although there are a lot of sites that carry aim icons but createblog's designers have their better touches.

True that people can use icons for buddy icons on AIM or another messenger, but usually it exceeds the bandwidth. It would be good if they can be in that size already so we can easily just make it our buddy icon.
