I'm 17, and I first started when I was eleven... so shouldnt my cycle be normal by now? I havent had my period since the beginning of January. And before that, the last one was June... so I went SEVEN MONTHS without having one. So I'm guessing its going to be seven months between my last period and my next. At one point, I guess at around 12, my periods were normal. Then over the years, they've become more and more irregular. Up until the one I had in June, they usually came every three months. wacko.gif

I'm seriously starting to really worry about this. Everytime I go to the doctor, they test my urine/blood, and everything comes back normal. And my mom claims that there's nothing wrong with me, and that I should be normal eventually. But I'm worried that there's really something wrong, and my mom's just not telling me.

What might be wrong? And what if I never become regular? Will I have problems having children later on?

Do you exercise a lot? If so, that could be the answer. Girls on sports teams tend to have more irregular periods than girls who aren't.

I dont play any sports, nor do I EVER excersize. The most excersize I ever get is walking up stairs to get to classes, and shopping. mellow.gif

Okay. In that case, I have absolutely no idea. Have you tried looking things up online about causes of irregular periods?

Also, you said this has happened before and that all test results were normal, so I don't think you need to worry so much.

^ I've done some research, but I havent really been able to find much.

Only thing is though, just because the tests are coming back normal, doesnt mean there isnt anything wrong. That just means my hormones are normal. I'm seriously afraid my mom is just hiding things from me.

Maybe I'm just jumping to conclusions... but what If my reproductive system is screwed up? I really cant think of anything else.

Like hiding what? mellow.gif

Do you know if your mom or grandma's periods have been this way?

Both are normal. My sister's completely normal too.

I think she might be hiding the fact that I may not be able to have children or something. She keeps telling me that I'm fine, and not to worry about it.

QUOTE
If you are not pregnant, other causes of missed or irregular periods include:

* Excessive weight loss or gain. Although low body weight is a common cause of missed or irregular periods, obesity also can cause menstrual problems.
* Eating disorders, such as anorexia or bulimia. For more information, see the topic Anorexia Nervosa or Bulimia Nervosa.
* Increased exercise. Missed periods are common in endurance athletes.
* Extreme emotional stress.
* Travel.
* Medications, such as hormonal birth control methods, which may cause lighter, less frequent, more frequent, or skipped periods.
* Hormonal abnormalities, which cause fluctuating levels of the hormones needed to support menstruation.
* Illegal drug use.
* Problems with the pelvic organs, such as imperforate hymen, polycystic ovary syndrome, or Asherman's syndrome.
* Breast-feeding. Many women do not resume regular periods until they have completed breast-feeding.

Premature ovarian failure is when you stop menstruating before age 40. Surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy to the abdomen or pelvis may cause premature ovarian failure.
Source: here.

It could be polycystic ovarian syndrome is what I'm guessing.

You could try contacting your doctor (or whoever runs your tests) when your mom's not there and asking them if there's anything wrong with you. She wouldn't be able to stop you, and it's only right that you know what's going on with your body if there really is something wrong.

^ Before seeing that, I saw something about the syndrome... that's what I'm starting to think too.

That's a good idea. Thanks.

You're welcome. I hope that nothing's wrong after all and that your period's just really weird.

Yeah, me too... but what I feared might actually be true, if it really is Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. From what I'm reading now, women with it cant have kids. sad.gif

Yea everything on that list already provided I was going to ask about.

I've come to notice kids in high school that really strive for the best academically really do have a lot of extreme stress in their lives. Which is something that can cause irregular periods which is why when girls have sex and panic if their pregnant the first piece of advice is to calm down because if your waiting on a period it can end up late because of the stress & panic.

As Cristy advised, just contact you doctor and ask them if that could be your problem. Your mom can't stop you and if she does then well do it with her not around.

^ At first that's what I thought it was, stress. But I'm not really under alot of stress. I'm a B student, but I never study or worry about school. There's actually nothing really going on in my life to cause me to be under an unhealthy amount of stress or anxiety.

And, I'm not sexually active. At all. _smile.gif
