Beloved by Toni Morrison is so, freaking, beautiful. Yes, it's terrifying. Yes, it's depressing. Yes, it's graphic but Good God it's a masterpiece. Admittedly, this astonishment might not last the longest ever and may be just because I'm currently reading it, but while her writing style is so dense, Beloved is definitely going on my Top 10.
Ooooh, and I do want to watch the movie, but I hear it just doesn't do justice. ): Has anyone else read Beloved or anything else by Morrison? |

I've never read Beloved, but I did read Song of Solomon for English this year. The incest bits were a bit weird and I could have done without them, but I got used to it. My teacher warned us that Morrison's writing style is different since time isn't linear in her books, meaning she jumps back and forth between different events of the past and present. But I guess I liked it that way because it made you have to read more carefully, thus appreciating the story more.
I'm not really sure what I'm trying to say. Song of Solomon is good though. That one line at the end really sticks with me: "Because now he knew what Shalimar knew: if you surrendered to the wind, you could ride it." |

I have never read Beloved, but from what I heard from the seniors, they say that it is a really good book.
I might be looking forward to read this book when I take AP English then. ;] |
