I'm looking for new ways to promote [advertise] by blog. I'm fairly cheap, so the free options are what I'm looking for. What are some of the ways you promote your blog?

Well, you can always make an affliate for your website. I'm pretty sure Facebook has some examples of affliates. When I used to own a layout site, I would trade affliates so that the other layout makers would have me on their website in return for vice versa.

Uhm shouldn't this be moved to website help or something else?

Anyway try finding affiliate sites.. around the internet or top sites. You can sign up for free on those..

Moved to Designers' Cafe. This may pertain to any blog and it fits so why not? :)

Have you submitted your site to Topsites? There are various topsite pages around the net as well.

Thanks for your suggestions. I've tried the Topsites thing 2 or 3 times, and I keep recieving error messages. I'm rather clueless. What does Topsites even do?

Yeah, I think the key is networking/affiliating, as Jane said, really. I mean.. just get involved and comment others' sites. shrug.gif

Affiliating is a good idea. Maybe asking your friends to link to your blog (if they have one). Provide an image and code that promotes your blog, etc.

Make yourself appear, make yourself standout.

i agree or join a topsite like holly said really what you have to do is wait people will use your stuff if it's good and thus refer people to your site.

Also, when affiliating make sure you make a graphic of some sort to lure the eyes to your "button" therefore they'll go "OOH this looks cool I wonder what it is" and you'll end up getting more views.

I just simply put the link anywhere I can, like my IM profiles, Myspace page, etc. and that drives a number of page views. Or you can just simply spread the word. Tell your friends about your site, who knows? Maybe they have one too, and can add you as an affiliate. Drop a line on other's sites and maybe you could make a lot of new friends. The main point is to basically have connections to people, and that'll bring traffic to your site.
