Tell me what you think about this....

Example: The US is going to war against Iraq. You're parents immagrated from Iraq and your parents hate this war. You are drafted for the US army to go fight against Iraq but in other words u will be fighting against ur own ppl.

What do u think about this?

I hate this idea.... if i was chosen to fight against Macedonia then i would run away from this country because that country is where my parents came from and where I know my uncle lives and a lot of my relatives do.

MODS: Please dont close this topic.... I know theres a couple other topics about drafting but this is a little different

it's fine. because as a citizen, you're obligated to serve the country when called upon. If (God forbid) the US had a war on the Philippines, I would still side with the US. Though it would break my heart.

if the war was as bogus as iraq, i would not go. Im not iraqi, but i will NOT die defending the political and economical choices of a bunch of rich men I never have and never will meet, just because I live under their flag. When it coems down to survival and life, i dont care what rich man I am ruled under, or what borders I am inside, unless its a legit cause, I'm not going. Don't waste your time calling me scared or a coward, I have put close to 4 years into the fire department, and I've gone into numerous house fires JUST to save property knowing noones inside...ive had my share of close calls, and I still go in. I just refuse to die for a bogus cause, or THIS president

well i dont think the US would ever draft again unless the military services are decreasing. when wa the last time the US drafted people?

well if you are a citizen, you have to serve for your country. i mean why come to this country if you arent going to fight for it in the future? anyways you wouldnt be going on the rampage trying to kill the civilians. you are fighting the leaders and the pawns. if the US is going to war with your native country, then it would be likely for a good reason. leaders can be corrupted if they are given too much power, what if the corrupted leaders are harsh to their people? wouldnt you try to fight for the US so your native country would be free? i dont know, it seems like an iffy topic.

I thank Minda for the following response, taking from the "Draft or Prison?" thread two pages ago

QUOTE
Though I disagree with their affirmative action decisions, the Supreme Court has otherwise proven to be fairly legitimate. I have the fullest faith that the draft, if passed in Congress (which is very unliekly to begin with), will be shot down by public opposition and the Supreme Court.

Amendment XIII: "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude shall exist in the United States, or any territory subject to their jursidiction, except as a punishment for a crimer whereof the guilty party shall have been duly convicted."

The draft is servitude. You have to follow all of your orders. For a period of time, you are a servant of the government.

The draft is involuntary. If it were voluntary, it wouldn't be a draft.

Don't know what bizarre definition you're using, but in my book involuntary + servitude = involuntary servitude. And it wasn't a crime to be an 18-year-old male last time I checked either.

the draft might be reinstatedas in america soon as next march. with all men and women between the ages of 18-26 being eligible for induction. If bills HR163 and S89 pass, college will not be an excuse to be excluded. The Smart Border Declaration signed by Canada and US will prevent draft dodgers from fleeing to Canada.

Ive seen links alot to this story....theyve tried to keep it low-profile since bushy boy wants reelected, but its there nonetheless bc military service IS declining, and we havce so many troops policing the world they need more

http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/06/29/iraq.reserves.ap/index.html

There is pending legislation in the House and Senate (twin bills: S 89 and HR 163) which will time the program's initiation so the draft can begin at early as Spring 2005 -- just after the 2004 presidential election. The administration is quietly trying to get these bills passed now, while the public's attention is on the elections, so our action on this is needed immediately.

$28 million has been added to the 2004 Selective Service System (SSS) budget to prepare for a military draft that could start as early as June 15, 2005. Selective Service must report to Bush on March 31, 2005 that the system, which has lain dormant for decades, is ready for activation. Please see website: www.sss.gov/perfplan_fy2004.html to view the sss annual performance plan - fiscal year 2004.

The pentagon has quietly begun a public campaign to fill all 10,350 draft board positions and 11,070 appeals board slots nationwide.. Though this is an unpopular election year topic, military experts and influential members of congress are suggesting that if Rumsfeld's prediction of a "long, hard slog" in Iraq and Afghanistan [and a permanent state of war on "terrorism"] proves accurate, the U.S. may have no choice but to draft.

Congress brought twin bills, S. 89 and HR 163 forward this year, http://www.hslda.org/legislation/na...s89/default.asp entitled the Universal National Service Act of 2003, "to provide for the common defense by requiring that all young persons [age 18--26] in the United States, including women, perform a period of military service or a period of civilian service in furtherance of the national defense and homeland security, and for other purposes." These active bills currently sit in the committee on armed services.

Dodging the draft will be more difficult than those from the Vietnam era.

College and Canada will not be options. In December 2001, Canada and the U.S. signed a "smart border declaration," which could be used to keep would-be draft dodgers in. Signed by Canada's minister of foreign affairs, John Manley, and U.S. Homeland Security director, Tom Ridge, the declaration involves a 30-point plan which implements, among other things, a "pre-clearance agreement" of people entering and departing each country. Reforms aimed at making the draft more equitable along gender and class lines also eliminates higher education as a shelter. Underclassmen would only be able to postpone service until the end of their current semester. Seniors would have until the end of the academic year.

Even those voters who currently support US actions abroad may still object to this move, knowing their own children or grandchildren will not have a say about whether to fight. Not that it should make a difference, but this plan, among other things, eliminates higher education as a
shelter and includes women in the draft.

well since all these terrorists crap came up, US is building up its military in order to defend us. its not really stupid, its actually smart. i think we need to be ready for any kind of attack and be ready to counter attack before anymore civilians get hurt.

I haven't read everything yet... but what do you mean?

The war has been over and there wasn't any drafts, selective service, yes, but no drafts. Do you mean to suggest a supposed senario?

I doubt the thing with the draft of men and women will work. Who's going to support the draft?

But if it were a matter between life and death.. and they needed every person they could muster (highly unrealistic scenario, but let's just suppose)..then would you?

yep, in that case though, the US were the bad guys. they liberated the philippines from Spain only to take control of it themselves. however, i wouldn't have a problem having the philippines under the US. it wouldn't be as poor of a country.

I would. We would be paying billions more in tax dollars and thousands of soldiers would die to pay rich people in a third world country.

The US Government is not beholden to the Philippines.

No one is forced to come here. Even if your family moved it you really wanted to you could stay behind. It doesn't matter where you lived before you lived in America. You live here now and it's your duty to serve in times of need.

I already said in the other drafts things. I AM NOT WILLING TO DIE FOR ANYONE(well except my family and bestfriend). So i am certainly not willing to die for some rich man in Congress, because i want to see him out their fighting for freedom. If we were to go war against Nigeria....God forbid. I would just kill myself. Ya'll just don't understand....everyone is like our military is so great and the best. We don't know what other countries are doing behind closed doors...Nigeria's military is somehting to be scared of. Our military is too civilized. Nigerian military has no shame, there is no such thing as prisoners, it is just dead people. Or if you were a prisoner you would rather be dead.
