Wild Charge Hands-On: Really Does Charge Wirelessly

We've heard tell of the Wild Charge system that replenishes power in cellphones, PSPs, notebooks and iPods, and now we can confirm: It really works.

We played with the system for a while tonight, putting the special cases on cellphones and attachments on iPods, and then suddenly those devices begin charging as soon as you place them on the metallic strip.

How the heck does this thing work?

It uses non-inductive technology to pass the current from strip to device without all that falderal you usually have to go through to charge it.

This is the real deal, folks—get your $49 ready, and that includes one "enablement case." Additional cases are $10 - $20, depending on the device. – Charlie White

wow that is simply amazing and i want one right now. i believe this will be a popular item.
i think this item was displayed at CES

Haha, that would be great to have. No more USB cable for my iPod!

Wow! That looks really cool. That'd be nifty for my iPod. It's too much hassle with the cable.

So instead of plugging it in you have to buy a case and place it on a specific metallic strip...

How is that better?

Man, I was just thinking about how cool that'd be a few months ago, but I didn't have that in mind. That's pretty stupid actually. I would rather just plug it in instead of placing it on the huge strip.

I was thinking of how cool it would be just to have the ends of the USB cable, the part that plugs in, and that's it. No cable. Get what I'm saying? I can't wait 'til somebody invents that.

Apple would love it if they could develop a form of electricity that was only compatible with the iPod.

meh, nice idea, but not overly useful or practical. You're still pretty much tied down. ALso, i'd liek to see how this plays on battery life on ipods, because that used to be a big issue.

now thinking twice, i realize this isn't so cool as it first seems.
i mean, i do want a charger for my iPod w/o a computer, but this seems a bit over the edge.

you would still need a outlet to plug the metallic strip in right? and wont it overcharge the items if you leave it on for too long?

God, that happens to me, too. IT'S SOOO ANNNOYING X_X

Anyways, this charge-thing seems pretty cool. I guess it's a lot easier to charge many things at one time. :) Without having my 8 wires all tangle up. x_X
