This is Chapter 2 of my new novel. You can read Chapter 1 here. Constructive criticism would be greatly appreciated.

Chapter 2
The Labyrinth

The night wind rustled overhead. It was so quiet that Amy, Dia and Christine could hear their own hearts beating in the surrounding darkness. The full moon above them offered just enough light to guide them through the maze they were desperately attempting to navigate. Their task tonight was to reach the palace at the center and defeat the king who ruled there. They were so used to coming across one another in their dreams that they didn’t even think to speak. After several moments, Amy broke the silence.
“Did you really have to watch Jim Henson’s Labyrinth before you went to bed?” She complained to Christine and Dia.
“Um, duh!” Dia laughed, feigning shock. “It’s amazing!”
“We claim superfandom,” Christine declared.
“Well now we’ve got to reenact the whole thing. I hope you’re happy.”
“We are!” The two sisters exclaimed in unison.
They continued their path onward, arguing about whether or not the Goblin King was going to look like David Bowie and if they could get rid of him the same way that the girl in the movie did. Amy walked more slowly than the others, and smiled when her good friends slowed down to flank her sides.
In the moonlight, Dia Mae couldn’t help but notice that her sister and her friend really did look alike. They both had pale, clear skin and long, straight, dark hair. Although Dia and Christine did have a similar build and comparable facial features, Dia was taller, curvier, and had curly hair. Not that it mattered, though. Dia was happy with her appearance and she loved her two closest allies dearly.
“Don’t go that way!” said a small, nasally voice in the darkness. The girls were just about to turn down a hidden path that they had only found because Dia and Christine had seen the movie more times than they could count. The sisters recognized the voice and continued on their way, but Amy hesitated.
“Don’t worry, it’s just the worm,” Christine reassured her.
“This way goes straight to the castle,” Dia Mae added.
Reluctantly, Amy followed. Sure enough, there was the castle looming before them. The three girls raced through the town square and through the castle gates (although it did take quite a bit of pushing to get them open) and soon enough they were inside the castle itself. After making sure that Amy knew what she would have to say to achieve that night’s task, they all went in search of the king.
They weren’t searching for very long before he appeared in front of them, a swirling mass of capes, tights, and bad hair extensions.
“You have no power over me,” the trio expounded, and soon enough they were lying awake in their beds.

“Dude, that dream was freakin’ crazy. I should post a blog about it. I just won’t mention that you guys had the same dream.”
“I don’t know, Dia. You’d probably get sued by Jim Henson’s family for copyright infringement,” Christine teased as she looked for a free lunch table. “They’d be all, ‘Hey, you ignored the worm! You eliminated an hour of the movie!” The girls laughed as they sat down and began to eat. What could possibly be better than having two best friends who you could share everything with?
“Do you guys mind if I get all mushy for a sec?” Dia asked, with her mouth full of peanut butter sandwich. “I’d be absolutely lost without you guys. I don’t know what I would do if something happened to one of you.”
“Aw, I love you guys too,” Amy smiled.
“Eh, you’re alright,” laughed Christine.
