I don't think there should be uniforms. I've worn uniforms my entire life, and I hate it.

I prefer school uniforms as long as they're not too dorky.

I mean, most people tease each other because of the way they dress. People can be individual after school. stubborn.gif

howbout this, we will have uniforms, only if the school pays for 5 complete sets, with all the stuff.

yea, then the budget challenged schools aren't so happy to make us all the same, are they.

QUOTE
Anyway, since I work with a lot of parents who sends their kids to private schools and academy this summer, I asked them about how they feel about uniforms, and they said they loved it. 20/20 said so.

but that's the parents. they don't have to wear the uniforms.

uniforms are for when you want everyone to be the same, i.e. soilders. you want uniformity.

uniforms are about uniformity. they change invividuality to uniformaty.

uniforms- uniformity.
uniforms- uniformity.
uniforms- uniformity.
uniforms- uniformity.

I go to a private school that is single sex and has uniforms, and I think there is LESS conformity and more individuality than at the public school I used to go too...

Individuality depends on a lot of different factors. While uniforms might help reduce individuality somewhat, it is inaccurate to say that it will destroy it.

i don't think they should have uniforms cause then the clothes you buy at the store would only be worn on dates, weekends, paries, etc.

i think school uniforms suck. people should be allowed to express their individuality, but only to a certain level.

individuality? i dont see anyone wearing Power Rangers clothes to highschool. its either AE, A&F, juicy, and other brands. noo ppl dont even show a sign of individuality. sometimes i see some, but not all. but uniforms suck so i would say no to uniforms.

i've had a uniform for 9 years, kindergarten - 8th grade. and now i'll have one again for high school. the only good thing about it is that i didn't have to worry about what to wear the next day. the uniforms make people judge you on your shoes and hair rather than clothes. so you still have the popular people with the best hair, shoes, and jewelry. plus the uniforms were expensive anyway so it wasn't a real money saver. so i don't think schools should have mandatory uniforms. just a dress code so that girls don't come dressed like strippers and you can't see guys' boxers.

Refer to my post. We can have conformity AND moral decadence that way.

what individuality? you mean those kids who jump on every single fad? we pretty much have uniforms already, since everyone copies each other.

Do they? Or do they also promote cleanliness and self-respect?

Trust me when I say that I dislike conformity. I realize that by saying so, everyone who's against uniform is thinking "this girl's a hypocrit"... well, not really.

Conformity and the act of uniformity can not be regulated if it's something each person holds inside. As in, if you are eccentric and unique, there is no reason why something you wear on the outside should affect your wild spirit. Why be surpressed and wary of school uniforms when they are all but a mean of tangible control over a school's appropriate educational environment?

And as someone else pointed out, why have the need to be all that different and then buy and wear the same AE, Pacific Sun, GAP, Banana Republic shirt that the guy/girl right next to you is wearing? Is that really individuality?

Ok.. the last couple replies.. are kinda.. eh.. out there.. so I'll try to revive this topic, shall I?

QUOTE

How? I'm not seeing the link..

Anyways.. school uniforms shouldnt be required because there is onli (should onli be) 1 main reason for school uniforms.. and that is that they detract from the learning environment..

HOWEVER.. that reason alone should be why uniforms are NECESSARY.. so that students can focus.. and learn, instead of discussing where clothes were bought.. how much, etc.. oh and going with the sexy/slutty comments recently.. that's another reason why uniforms are necessary.. because those are too much of a distraction

might i add

that a uniform is exactly the same for everyone.

i don't see how you are able to arge with the word root.
uniformity- of uniform, meaning the same.

that's the solution to the worlds problems. put everyone in the same clothes.

but wait... didn't our friends the soviets do that?

you d--- capitalists. trying to give people the freedom to choose what they wear.

COMMUNISM WILL RISE!!! THE WORLD SHALL BECOME A SOCIALIST SOCIETY!!!!

yes, it's a little extreme iof an interpritation. but from the same spectrum.

what do uniforms have to do with economic systems? we drive cars. but wait, didn't our friends the soviets do that? oh no, we've become communist!

economic freedom and personal freedom are two different things.

i'd say have have uniforms until you go to university ^_______^" have the option here and would rather go to a private school with uniforms then an public school... but all catholic school have uniforms anyways...
pros:
WIth uniforms someone doe snot have to worry about what to wear the next mroe anymore...
does not feel left out if they don't stay with the trend
does not need to waste sooo much money buying all kindas of different clothes and updating it ever sooo often.
no one would get made fun of by the way they dress...

cons:
no self independence... can't should your own crativity
must wear what the school requires...

tooo lazy to think now =)

Took ze words right out of my mouth! laugh.gif

the army is a socialist structure.

it is, by definition.

the soviets drove all the same cars, when they happened to have cars.

by the way, socialist means that the government provides everything, like cars, food, equipment, and you work for them. like the army

communism is that everyone shares the same stuff.

communism is an economic system, but socialism is not.

anyways, you didn't not adress the real issue.

that uniforms are the tools of tyrants, and oppressive governments, used to supprese individuality.

i was saying, that washow the soviets used them.

and although that isn't the purpose of uniforms for schools

it will get the same result.
