that statement is wrong, with cable your sharing a big connection as more people use that connect it will decrease in speed for all of the users. with DSL, distance is a factor but you will always have the speed consistant.

heh, im gettin dsl too. my parents ordered it w/o tellin me. in my opinion, cable would be better cuz of its higher dl speeds. frm wat im seein frm my friends, dsl is much slower than cable. in sum rare instances does dsl ever reach over 200kbs. if ur an avid gamer and downloader, go w/ cable, if not, go w/ dsl its cheaper

IMHO, DSL sucks. Of course it is a lot better than Dial-up or ISDN, but compared to cable, there is no comparison.

DSL prices are lower than cable, but if you have SBC for your phoneline (since you need SBC for phone in order to get SBC for DSL) you can bargain with the cable company to get you better rates after your special promotion is over.

I have cable and Comcast recently doubled their bandwidth to 3Mps (megabits) so I now hit 400KB/s, note that's Kilobytes, not bits (8 bits to a byte). My aunt has DSL, speed I got while downloading 50KB/s.

Depending on how much you're paying for your DSL though, SBC's basic DSL (most likely what you're getting) has max bandwidth of 758(768? somewhere around there)Kps, compare that to 3Mbs (3,000Kps) there's a huge gap.

Course this is where DSL users will bring up the "But when there are more users on Cable will slow down" excuse. In my experiance, not an issue. Even if your speed does go down, you won't notice it for surfing the web, and when downloading files your speed won't drop down to DSL speeds.

Oh I see, you're getting the pro package, 1 year service agreement and $36 a month plus other stuff. From SBC:

QUOTE
Pro Package
1.5-3.0Mbps
384Kbps
1 Dynamic
$36.99
Order Now

Order SBC Yahoo! DSL for a one-year term for $36.99 per month, and receive a $149 SBC Yahoo! DSL Wireless Home Networking kit, $179 laptop Home Networking bundle or a $99 DSL modem, and receive a $99 Instant Credit (taxes and a $12.95 shipping and handling fee apply). Plus, get free activation and a free self-installation kit

Ok so they've changed stuff since I last checked. But I still like Cable more. Plus they're speed is fluctuating, 1.5-3 while Cable is 3. Not sure about the upload speed, but I think that's slower too.

I have it, it's alright, we got it cuz it was a good deal. It's a lot better than dial up, so I can't complain, but I am getting cable soon, i hope

I just got SBC YAHOO DSL yesterday. It's really good and so fast. I had dial up but yeah, it depends on your computer. My friend has a Dell and it's really slow because of all the stuff that were put in there, but I have an HP so it was already fast with the dial-up. Now it's faster with both. I recommend though, not using the SBC browser because it slows it down too much. Use internet explorer. yay!
