Image Linking Options

Alright, this might sound like a silly question, but I really need to know. I've looked through many links here on createblog however nothing I have found had satisfied my question. On to the actual question, what code is used to add links to certain images in sites? Like the links are positioned anywhere on the page? Would this code also work on something like geocities?
