Yeah, so when I was registering my new laptop, I think I skipped a step and it has a generic name now..

Ex:
C:\Documents and Settings\HPOwner\My Documents\My Music

How do you change that? I've been searching around for it for a while, but I can't find anything. sad.gif

I know for a fact that it's not the computer name. I tried it already. I also tried renaming the administrator account, but that doesn't work.

I have a feeling that it was the original administrator account name, though, but I don't know how to change it. _unsure.gif

So guys, how do I change it?
Help is very much appreciated! _smile.gif

I'm guessing you checked out the Control Panel already?

Yeah, I've checked every part of it.. sad.gif

Like.. When I view the system properties, under General it says 'Registered to: HPOwner'.

The only way I can think of to fix it is reinstall Windows, but I don't want to do that. =/

It's the name of a user. There must be a user named "HPOwner".

There was, but I changed it.. My username on it is Elaine, but in the My Documents folder, it still shows up as HPOwner.

Do I have to reregister/reinstall, or is there another way to change it?

When you reformat/reinstall on some computers in the beggining you get the chance of naming your computer. But I don't know about HP.

Windows XP might not change the directory name when the username changes. I don't know for sure.

^ Yeah, it doesn't.. It still keeps the name of the original user.

I finally got an email back from HP customer service..
I fixed it, all I had to do was edit the registry.

Thanks anyways, everyone! _smile.gif
