trying to make a layout help, having problem with layout Options

ugh this isnt working for me! okay im making a layout, putting in my codes where they belong. (i have done it before and it was working fine, on another layout) well what i am trying to do is have an image on the bottom left (background image, also stays in one spot) then have an image above the blog part. thats it. im having so much trouble. ugh! if some one could help me out, i would be forever greatful! i just want the background black with all the text a light grey (to go with the layout). here are the links if someone is willing to help me out!
