Why do people keep using EMO as an excuse for a way of being as a lifestyle. Its nothing. Its the new fad, just like torn jeans in the 90's, and hair in the 80's. More or less just a word

Your either emotional or your not. Just a short way of saying that. And for people that read this and think "No Kiel, emo includes other stuff like hurting yourself, loneliness, heartache and crying all the time", no you guys/girls thats what the world calls depressed & heartbroken.

I am basically making this thread as an older male just listening to all these newer kids say they are EMO and 97% of them think its like an excuse to be sad and that they like become something else. Well I am one to say your not getting anymore attention from me than a happy person. I dont need to listen to some kid say hes/shes EMO when they simply make pills for depression and these attention "go-getters"

Some of you will agree and some of you will prolly go the exact opposite but thats why I posted this. I posted this to say just cut it out.

I don't wanna have to explain to another teenager that says "Oh man Im going to become an EMO". No buddy your already depressed So you can easily say your going through a "depression stage" cause theres no such thing as becoming an "EMO".

Hope ya'll see my side of it. And before you all jump to conclusions. I myself am a pretty emotional person, I just dont like it when people use it it get attention, so this post isn't and argument or anything. Think of it more or less as a cry for help to the people who understand what I mean.

~One love~

lol ive never heard of someone saying they were going to become an emo. ive just seen kids stand around together in black clothes complaining about how their lives suck and how they hate their dads and everyband that gets a record deal. the kids who call themselves emo i think are just trying to be around people like themselves, which maybe be depressed or pathetic.... I mean yah its a fad, but i dont think its the same as actually being clinically depressed. to me its just another form of expression for kids. and even tho they get on my nerves, i figure they will grow out of it. becase its all for attention, being preppy, being a goth, a thug, u name it. its all an attempt to be seen by people.

lol okaayy...
how about ignoring them? its there life and if they want to act like they are EMO or want to be EMO then just let them. you are not going to change thier way of thinking. I agree that EMO is just a fad and many people confuse EMO and depression.

emo is just a label. whether or not you want to call yourself emo that's up to you. there may not be a universal definition that is accepted by all, it probably has different meanings in different places.

The point isnt to show myself attention or that I happen to be ANTI ( a word that truly doesnt mean anything).

Its just another topic for people to freely express how they feel on the subject just as I did. I just happen to be the topic starter.

aite, thanks

If you're depressed doesn't mean that you're emo. Emo is a type of music for God's sake!

Stereotypes suck, that's what I think.
You shouldn't stereotype yourself, your friends, or any other people.
I think that stereotypicalization is stupid.

EXACTLY!
Emo is a type of music. Not a way of life.

It's not newly invented. It's been around for some years.

Sunny Day Real Estate is emo.
Thursday is more screamo than emo. I can't think of any good ones right now though. I don't listen to emo anymore..

Emo is supposed to be hardcore punk, but it's evolved into these really slow, sad, depressing songs (I refer to those songs as 'watered-down emo').

Is it alright if I ask you a few questions?
Why exactly do you call yourself 'emo' and not 'depressed'?
Why do you feel the need to stereotype yourself?

We're not making fun of you. If you want to be emo, go ahead.
I think you're the one being a little immature. You overreacting a little. You can have your own opinions and we can have ours. Why must you care about what we say?

I'm really sorry if this is mean. pinch.gif I'm just trying to prove a point.

Yeah, ok well here goes:

QUOTE

Depression is not ANYTHING like emotional. Everyone is "EMO" at at point in their lives. EMO people are practicly ALWAYS emotional. We, sorta, have a different perspective on life.

QUOTE
Why do you feel the need to stereotype yourself?

Define "STERIOTYPE" please!

I feel like you guys are making fun of US (and yes, there is an US) because of what we act like. Like KielReese said EVERYONE is emotional but its the people who are emotional ALL THE TIME that are REAL emo people.. like me!

rawr SOCK: thanks for the comment that we CAN be emo, but if you people (non-emos) don't like us being emo, then I think you should meet some NEW people. But, no, Im not being immature, I am trying to make a piont. I wouldnt mind actually having a debate on this. I think we should see how many different perspectives there are. OVERACTING?
Oh I am NOT overacting, like i said, I am trying to make a point!

You people?

I think this topic just went prejudice. And believe me it wasnt here before.

Dont bother debating, the world has a higher % ratio of happy people in it. So its a known fact that the stage "EMO" isnt a stage, you cannot become an emo, people are just emotional. You cannot decide one day you will just start to be EMO.

You are either born emotional or your not. Its not a phase nor stage to choose its a chemical imbalance in your brain that causes it. So theres no turning point ever.

Score 1.

HAHA YOU'RE FUNNY EMOKIMO.

What does emo really mean anyways? I thought it was a term for:
brats who cut themselves for attention
brats who pretend to cut themselves for attention
act like their life is horrible when it's not
take pics on myspace in the bathtub w/ depression poses thinking they're super hawt models
Pretend to think blood & gore is cool just bcos they think it's cool to think so.
Pretend to be depressed & sad bcos they think it's cool

What I'm really trying to say is... How dare you people be like, "oh I'm so emo, oh life is so sad, blah blah blahh..." YOU'RE A BUNCH OF RETARDS. IF A PERSON HAD TRUE CLINICAL DEPRESSION, THEY WOULDN'T BE STUPID ENOUGH TO LABEL THEMSELVES 'EMO' BCOS IT'S JUST LIKE LABELLING SOMEONE A PREPPY, GOTHIC, PUNK, ETC.

you know rather then fight with people why cant you just accept the fact that people see the "emo" scene as a stage and a fad/good music scene
some people just cant accept the technical factors you bring up
just let kids be kids and have fun
so why go on with this

she never said she was a unhappy person all the time.
shes jsut saying that the music is cool and maybe the lifestyle
and yeah she might be into the "sterotype"
but thats really not your place to judge her by that

Question. I know that the term Emo is simply the word emotional shortened, which everyone is. Everyone is full of emotion whether it be happy or sad. So if Emo was a way of life, with the mode of dress and type of music, wouldn't that cross over into punk? What's the difference really?

Emo has emotional lyrics, have you ever read them? EMO is a way of life AND a style/music/etc.
