Pencil drawing of my friend Amy. Took about an hour. It isn't finished really...keep going back and fixing little things because it's pretty rough still. Yeah.. And I know, I know, the neck/shirt aren't done. But I'm too lazy right now.. pinch.gif

C&C? I'm trying a new drawing technique...this is my last portrait: http://img230.imageshack.us/img230/2490/sarahzr9.jpg ermm.gif is this new style any better? Just so you know the actualy drawing is actually a LOT sharper and more refined...my scanner made it look all fuzzy and yuck, sorry.

EDIT (2/2/07)
finally scanned my newer version...any better?

This is looking pretty sweet =)
As for your technique, i prefer your other picture,
however, you should use the technique that felt most comfortable to you.
but props for trying something new =)

great job!

it's pretty awesome.

as for my criticsm.
The way you did it (shading) looks rough, if I make any sense. Your technique in this drawing looks pretty aggressive.

I think it needs darker darks and lighter lights. It looks a bit to gray.

Other than that it's beautiful

exactly, if you made a better gradient of shades maybe we would be able to tell the differences in her face, but other than that its a good sketch.

Thanks for all your comments! That one really was just a quick sketch, I've gone over many times since I posted this and it looks much better now. As soon as I get a chance to scan it, I'll post it up here.

I like the one of the little girl, but this one is really nice as well. The shading and everything looks good. I think which ever way you choose it will look great.

not bad. Perhaps you can sort of combine both of your techniques some how? In terms of what you have here, the sketch is great, but you've got a little too much dark, and high contrast area, without a lot of midtones. The other one seems the entire opposite, with both, you could try experimenting with some real extremes though (black and white). I really like the hair and the ears though...for some reason, not a lot of people (including myself) can get that right.

i like it very much, but the there's not enough gradation where the "lines" of her face are; they look like actual lines, making it seem more cartoon-ish than realistic.
