should they? i mean subtitles tell when they mean to say but is not fully accurate. should subtitles like so they write what they really say in that order though i might get confusing but atleast then u can compare the words in the subtitle to the words they're saying.

Yes.
![]() But it is funny to compare what they're really saying, and the subtitles. Or I could learn Japanese. ... Better subtitles. |

1 word in japanese can mean about 2+ things. (Some)
There are more than 1 subtitled animes from different people. None of them are 100% accurate. As lomg as it fits with what you see. |

There is always something lost in translation between languages. If you want to know what a source really says, you have to learn the language it is written in.

No, because it gets confusing.
for example, "the dog jumped over the cat." in japanese, it might end up something like "cat over jumped by dog." it's not completely accurate, i just made it up. but i've seen sentences like that. |

The reason why the subtitles are a bit off is because the Japanese language does not translate directly into English. There are differences in grammar and vocabulary. It's the same with any other foreign language.

This girl said in Japanese, "Aishiteru" which meant i love you and the subtitles translated it correct but the dubbed version put it as "I've always admired you" ![]() or when this girl said, a whole sentence (too lazy to put it into letters) about being "over my dead body" ...the dubbed version said, "for as long as you're dead".. kinda far... |

I agree with Taited_Euphoria and Jonathan -- Nothing can perfectly be translated. There are various meanings. I know when I read manga scanlations, people translate it and there would be a side note "I'm not sure what is meant by this" and it's true -- the only way you can perfectly understand something is to learn Japanese.
Also, for subtitles, hey subtitles are WAY better than actual dubbed anime! So I wouldn't be complaining. |

Hmm... only knowing English I'll probably never know the accuraccy of the subtitles. Reading blind for me
![]() I suppose the only way to really know what they're saying is to learn the language itself. |

^sometimes it's obvious when subtitles aren't accurate. For instance, i was watching samurai deeper kyo in subtitles, and with no relevance whatsoever, one of the charachters said, "Is your daddy happy!". There are some very good translations tho. I can kinda of tell by seeing if they match what ur watching.

I can truthfully say that most of the subtitles are actually accurate.. Its only some words that have many different meanings and can get mistaken for others.. Most of the times why subtitles aren't so accurate is because trying to translate one language to another is hard as it is... because look at the bible and see how many different versions there are.. because everyone has different translations or interpret it in a different way. Other times its just because they speed sub it so the fan could enjoy it fast and jsut get most of it.. because truthfully I wouldn't really mind if 1 or 2 words were off.. comon if you enjoy it then thats good enough!

I think they're accurate enough for the most part, but some of them are laughable in their inaccuracy (such as in Chibi Vampire, but I get the gist so it's all right).

I agree with everyone who said they are mostly accurate. But the subtitled versions I find in youtube were translated by regular people who either fluently understand Japanese or used a translator. I guess that explains part of its inaccuracy.. I was watching Bleach and it went like, "I are the Death God." I was like O_O ..typo!

lolol I are Death God.
![]() Yeah, I agree too. As long as the story's still the same, we basically can understand what's going on. >.> Even subtitled movies that show on TV are a bit inaccurate and don't translate exactly.. except for a few parts, it could have been translated exactly word for word and still made sense, but it didn't. |
