i dont really know what its called... but it says like comotron , mystix II , electronic antishock system... i think its called Mystix II... i bought it at Frys, it was supposed to be like $60 but something was wrong with it... like the plug that you use if you dont wanna use batteries didnt work... so i got it for like $35-$40, cheap ones like $20 didnt really work for me though

Get sony, they are always the best quality. I got mine for about 50 bucks. Sony D-EJ100. Up to 50 hours of battery life, no skipping.

QUOTE(xquizit @ Jun 1 2004, 7:26 PM) Anything by Sony! They have the best sound and that's the most important thing to me. If Sony portable players is your idea of great quality and superb sound, then I beg to differ. Really. I've owned over a few Discmans and CD Walkmans in a span of ten years, and I think the sound quality of newer Walkmans are crap. I was astounded when my top-of-the-line $120 D-CJ01 MP3 CD Walkman sounded no better than my five-year-old mid-range $55 Discman. And all of them except my recent one didn't stand-up to the heavily frequent use and abuse of my liking. Sony spends much time making the units slimmer and sleeker, but compromising sound quality a lot. I'm pretty much over with Sony portables. I never bothered with Minidisc, and the Network Walkman with the craptacular software and Sony's less-appealing and propeitary Atrac format. Even if I burn my 300 MP3 tracks to CD, still I have to carry more CDs, and I can't fit 'em in my pocket. So I bought an 15GB iPod, and couldn't been anymore pleased. ![]() |

That's my problem with the final fantasy series. But that's off topic. I suggest getting an mp3 player. CD's are soooooooooooooooooooooo the 90's! <-- LOL |

get an mp3 player...they don't skip at all, and temperature doesn't bother them as much. but in terms of cd players, get one with an esp of at least 45 sec. and can play mp3s, so you can put lots and lots of songs on one disc

Get one of the new Sony ATRAC3/MP3/CD players. They're $70-80 and they play ATRAC3 songs, so you can fit 300 or 400 songs on one CD.

If you have to use a CD player, then the iRiver iMP350 Slim-X will fit your needs. And it comes with a remote and FM radio. Much better sound and build quality than the Sony. But once again, an MP3 player is a better and more logical choice IMO. |

I have to agree with Viggen on this and his other points. iRiver makes some of the best music players out there, thier MP3 players and their CD-Players. Sure they have a few bad ones, but a search will show that most people like thier products. Though the Slim-X is a bit expensive at over $100. It is extremely thin though and not much larger than a CD. Assuming of course you have a lot to shell out, I'd get the iRiver iHP-120 or w/e the model is. IMHO it is a much better MP3 player than the iPod (can you say overrated?). Just because a product says SONY doesn't make it good. Sure they have some good products, but does that mean you should spend more money for it? Take for example Sony Digital Camera, cool looks, but not the best features. Plus your stuck using expensive mediasticks as opposed to much cheaper Compactflash cards or SD cards. Of course if you can get a Sony at a decent price, meaning same cost as other things with same features, then I'd get that. |

Get higher mAh batteries if you're using rechargeable ones. I'd get at least 2000 mAh Ni-Hm AA batteries. Those will last you a while between each charge. I use 1,800 mAh batteries and can get about 15hours of continuous play before it dies. Which is good because my MP3-CD player doesn't have a hold button so it always turns on by itself. I also find it retarded that we must distinguish between MP3-CD players and CD players since pretty much all CD-Players are MP3-CD players. Unless you're getting like the 20 dollar ones. |

QUOTE(mechwarrior1989 @ Jun 4 2004, 9:15 AM) [iRiver] IMHO it is a much better MP3 player than the iPod (can you say overrated?). I agree with everything except this point. Okay, so the iPod doesn't have everything the iRiver players have, like FM radio, longer battery life, and so-on. It's rather a personal preference, but I chose it over iRiver's comparable model because of the simplicity of the controls, the user interface is easier to navigate, and it's not as bulky. (And the fact I got a discount on it, which I only spent $265.) Only thing I have beef with the iPod is the touch-sensitive buttons which they solved with the iPod mini's click wheel. And the fact it looks handsome is just a bonus. Sound quality bad? It's all in the earphones. I just dumped the white earphones for Shure E2Cs or the full-sized Grado SR60s, which improved the sound pretty much. Overrated? Sure, by marketing hype, but definitely not a horrible piece of crap like Sony's Network Walkman. |
