I am not worried if a band is played on TV or the radio. I still listen to popular bands. I honestly don't care about popularity...i just noticed that a majority of these bands were playes on both channels.

Green Day barely helped change the face of rock music..There were many other bands that did that..Plus I don't know any metal bands that are influenced by green day?

I still think they are horrible... stubborn.gif

Oh, I know, I didn't mean you directly. _smile.gif Your post just reminded me that a lot of people are like that.

Who said anything about metal bands?

I used to be. And I have an offer right now but I'm not sure if I'll take it. I used to do the band scene but it just takes so much time and energy. I gotta focus on college right now.

I can't stand Green Day..Their first album Dookie was alright though....anything after that is pure crap....Green Day is a horrible band..I don't know why people like them so much

Uhhmmm.
Green Day's first album was 39/Smooth.
After that, they released Kerplunk!
Then came Dookie.

Dookie was just their first album to gain real mainstream attention. Way to show your true colors. Har har.

QUOTE(iRock cB @ Nov 5 2006, 2:38 PM) *
Lmao, I like Green Day. Not their new album but they're far from a horrible band. They've helped changed the face of rock music into a lot of the bands you like today.

They really didn't help to change the face of rock. Actually, if anything, they simply promoted a bastardization which would go on to serve the dick wagging money grabbing masses and help to evolve the faceless rock which invades radio and television each moment of every day. It wasn't like Green Day did anything innovative or new. They just showed that mall "punks" can sing love songs too, bad ones at that, and still make a bunch of money doing it.

QUOTE(iRock cB @ Nov 5 2006, 2:38 PM) *
And what the hell's up with everyone worried if a band is on TV or the radio nowadays? Or if they become popular they don't like them anymore? If a band is good, their good and if I like them, I like them. It doesn't matter to me how famous they are. If a band is worth a crap, they're gonna go somewhere so get used to it. XD.gif

I don't care if a band is on TV or on the radio. Generally. However, I also care that a band is good, and that I like them. And, generally, those bands that I like and feel are good tend not to appear on television and rarely are heard on the radio. I tend to have a disdain for popular music, not because it is popular, but because it's vacuous shit.

I'm sure there is plenty of popular music you don't care for, and, at the same time, talent certainly isn't a prerequisite within our musical industries. Because, fundementally, you have to understand that this truly is an industry. Agents are trying to make money, and most of the bands that get air time aren't making it there for any reason other than the fact that labels gotta get paid. People buy shit all the time, why should the music industry be any different? Brave, honest, and truly innovative music doesn't tend to get marketed because of the fact that bravery, honesty, and innovation aren't exactly safe financial qualities. They want the "tried and true" money makers. So, expect a lot of bands with not much to say, very similar sounds, and a lot of makeup. It's not about honesty, it's the f**king music industry. Granted exceptions, but are you blind or what?

i never thought of it like that but you do have a point.

and because when they become part of the label the label might like change their sound so they can make money. i hope that makes sense cause im kinda out of it today. lol.

First off, I'd like to correct that embarrassing "their." in that second statement of mine that you quoted. I meant to say "they're" haha. I can't stand it when people can't get that right.

That's still, in a negative way, helping to change the face of rock. It just depends on how you look at it. Some people love that "bastardization". You can't say that they didn't help bring about some of the music heard today. I can't tell you how many bands who consider them an inspiration when they were getting started. And I'm not including American Idiot. I'd rather not mention that CD. _dry.gif

Oh, yeah Nate, I agree with you 100%. I just meant the people who are just automatically against anything that gets popular in a close minded way. That really bothers me. It's like "OH I LOVE SOANDSO!" and a year later, same band, same music but a little more popular it's like "Oh, I hate SOANDSO now. They're too popular." That's what gets on my nerves.

Aso.
Agreed.
If you like a band, be true and honest to your aesthetic judgements. Don't simply abandon your sentiments because a band you like flows from obscurity and into the mainstream.

well not like that i mean...the band Madina Lake...they look really cool, but their sound is really shitty. I dont just listen to bands because of their trendy junk. I mean if that was the case, my ass would be listening to some George Jones.
