Online homework

So my university has implemented online homework for a few first year classes (I'm not sure about higher years).

So I basically have to pay to do homework, which is ridiculous. You get an access code which comes with a newly-packaged textbook/solutions/etc. or you buy it separately for about 30-40 Canadian dollars if you bought a used textbook. Assignments and pre-class quizzes are due usually on a Friday or Sunday night. It can force some people to actually do the work (since it counts toward your grade) and keep you on track, but that isn't/can't always be true. Unexpected things come up and there's always the situation where the site is down, which has already happened a few times.

Do any of you have anything similar (or the same)?

I had an Art History class online and it was somewhat similar. You had to buy the thick, $150 book plus the access code (which was sold sperately for about $30). Because I took this online course over the summer it was really fast paced. We had to read 3-5 chapters a week. For each of these chapter we had a quiz, plus we had to critique paintings, sculptures, and the like. We had one week total to complete all of this before we had to move on to the next few chapters, critiques, etc. On top of this, I was taking three other classes. It was really hectic but I managed to get an 'A' in the class.

Also, I had a few unexpected things come up where I wasn't able to get online or critique work. Oh, and when I say critique work, we actually had to go a local museum. So when my car broke down one week I was screwed. There was another time when I was taking a quiz online and the power in my dorm went out and I wasn't able to go back and retake the quiz. Luckily I had an understanding teacher that understood unfortunate stuff happens and was understanding when circumstances beyond our control got in the way and we weren't able to complete some things on time. As long as we were prompt with making up the work quickly and not falling too far behind she was ok with it.

yea, i had web assign for physics.

online homework is cool because you get immediate feedback. but it sucks when i want to do it in school, which means i have to go to the evil librarians... :shudder:.
