Guess what!
I got an offer to play piano solo with orchestra!! They actually ASKED for me!! XD Wowwwwww!! Well I'm kind of scared to do it because I'm just doing SO much this year and I'm not sure if I'll do it perfectly and whether my teacher will actually let me.. But I thought about it, I even asked my boyfriend who is also a pianist about his thoughts and he said he thinks I can do it.. And I think I'm old enough to decide what repertoire to play.. So I will do this!! The piece is called Rhapsody in Blue by Gershwin, if any of you have the chance - hear it, it's contemporary and really jazzy and.. it's just so awesome!!!!! It's veeeeery unbelievable.. I just wanted to share :D I'm sooooooooo excited!! |

Heyy! Congratulations!
 What a wonderful accomplishment! I've heard Rhapsody in Blue by Gershwin before at Carnegie Hall; it's great.

Yes, but extremely famous for piano. If I recall correctly, there are lots of glissandos.

Congrats on your Piano Solo, I almost had something like that but it's not as classy as PLaying Piano with an Orchestra. I play solo guitar for Local Bands, school bands, and do shows as festivals but nothing as great as yours
thats truly a highlight good luck

oh my gosh! that's amazingggg
i studied gershwin three years ago with my piano teacher and that piece is so freakin' crazy (i mean for a kid like me who isn't ze greatest pianist of all time). good luck and prep hard! i know you'll do great  i only wish i could have a chance like that; you're so lucky. all i've ever done is play elvis on piano with an orchestra and it was all like.. woo, same chords over and over again. hahaha. and some accompanying, but nothing cool like rhapsody in blue. |

Update: wowwww.. this is really retarded. My teacher said that they've been asking other people too and some guy from some little college agreed to do it! And she told the conductor that they should at least hold auditions.. Oh man she also sent him an e-mail, saying "My student can outplay any other pianist you choose." HAHAHA I wanted to kill her..
But yeah. Might not happen if they don't hold auditions.

Wow. Rhapsody in Blue is amazing, but I can only play the one really slow, but sweet part, it's about 9 mins into the song. You must have really jazzy hands (and maybe elbows, haha)! Congratulations and best of luck!
Man, I wish I could play piano right now. Too bad I can't fit one in my dorm room
