You have to get older but you don't have to grow up or become more mature.

Anyone and everyone gets older. It's the way of life.

Growing up is when you decide to get in touch with reality and act your age or older. It's about reaching a certain maturity level when you decide to stop being a kid and "grow up" ... so to speak.

Everyone gets older.
Thats never going to change.
But People don't always grow up.
For some people it will be a long time to mature, while some people mature at an early age, like me, I am told i am very mature for my age.

Everyone gets old but not everyone grows up. Like Christine, for example. Now if you say growing up as in getting taller, then that happens to everyone too (I think).

I grew up when I first witnessed domestic violence at 11 years old. I grew up when I found my best friend with his brains blown out thanks to a .357. I grew up when I found out my deployment date. All this growing up and I'm only 19.

A person can age and not mature. A person can also get the shock of a lifetime and mature (mentally) overnight. Thanks to the unfortunate events on this earth, you have 10 year old men fighting wars and 40 year old boys living at home with mom.

I believe that "growing up" requires events in ones life that change you. Some people are protected from that and are never given the opportunity to grow inside. Everyone can get older physically, but growing up mentally takes time and experience. Someone may acquire that experience at 10 years old, some at 45. It just depends on the person.

I honestly do not believe that there is a definitive comparison between the two.

I had to grow up fast, too fast when I was a child. I had a mother who was emotionally inept, a father whom I had never met and two younger siblings with weekend dads. I cooked for them and bathed them. My grandmother basically raised us and I was at a very young age when I became quite aware of the fact that life wasn't fair, and that emotional reciprocity with a parent wasn't assured.

As a young teenager (about 13) my grandmother died and I had to grow up even quicker. Instead of our mother being immersed in theater, she was immersed in school. More than likely, it was too late for us to be close either way. She was still negligent with her children and we were still very poor. At the same time, I understood and was much more mature than the average child in the neighborhood because I never equated material gain with good character.

You get older and you grow up. Sometimes the two just aren't parallel with each other in advancement. There are individuals that grow up faster than they age, and those who age faster than they grow up.

And then there are those who ramble way too much when they post. whistling.gif

Growing up, I think its more or less still getting to know yourself. Your still going through the early years of life, figuring out your surrondings and such.

And Getting Older, is mostly just on age. When older people are getting "over the hill" In some sense I suppose.

for me, getting older is just more of a physical thing. you know, you get taller, your voice changes, etc. while growing up is more of a mental && emotional thing. growing up is like maturing.

Growing up.. Just being able to accept things. Kind of like someone else said, being more mature. Getting older is just your age. It's cool how you can be old (not like 70 yrs old.. but 30's..) yet still not be grown up. _smile.gif

Growing up.. Getting more mature.. Being responsible for yourself.. Being able to realize true life and how hard it is.

Getting older.. Just, aging.

I think growing up is more of an internal thing, as in terms of responsibility, wisdom, and maturity. Getting older is more physical, with changes and growth taking place in your body.

Growing up takes experience ...with the aquired knowledge you learned based on that particular experience , and taking the necessary formal right steps in order steps to deal with it . It can get pretty different for people depending on what kind of experiences they deal with . There is no right or wrong .

Getting older is when you get old physically and your attributes change .
