Are there any topsite rules? And who runs it? Because it's really bad. Here are examples:

http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=150894 - Default myspace, not even a screenshot, but a photograph taken of myspace on a monitor.
http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=149392 - Default myspace, by the looks of the screenshot, but the myspace itself is down for three weeks.
http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=148945 - Xanga, little to no customization
http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=148869 - Myspace set on private
http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=148770 - Inaccurate screenshot (myspace layout must've been updated)
http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=148689 - Myspace set on private
http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=148073 - No screenshot of layout
http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=147889 - Another forum (would this be considered advertising?)
http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=147511 - Another forum
http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=145965 - Inaccurate screenshot
http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=145654 - Site itself doesn't have a cB topsite button, so why bother being on it?
http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=145653 - Myspace set on private
http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=145652 - No screenshot of layout, Myspace set on private
http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=145651 - No screenshot of layout, poorly designed
http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=145568 - Myspace set on private
http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=145567 - No cB topsite button
http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=145455 - No cB topsite button
http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=145364 - No screenshot of layout, little to no customization
http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=145363 - No screenshot of layout, advertises another myspace customization site, no cB topsite button
http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=145233 - No cB topsite button
http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=145155 - Myspace has been deleted
http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=144710 - No screenshot of layout, poor design
http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=144709 - No screenshot of layout, defaultish myspace
http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=144612 - Myspace set on private
http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=144611 - Site is on hiatus
http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=144489 - No cB topsite button
http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=144488 - No screenshot of layout
http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=144486 - No screenshot of layout, Myspace set on private
http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=144485 - Inaccurate screenshot, little content
http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=144484 - Inaccurate screenshot (the new layout is cute, though)
http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=144483 - Defaultish layout

Man, who the heck approves these? And those were only the ones on the first two pages. Maybe there should be a topsite staff position or something.

Oh, and I really liked this one, but I think the site crapped out and glitched and didn't link the screenshot to the topsite. http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=145232 (http://www.createblog.com/topsite/out.php?id=359)

Micron decided that anyone could submit a topsite, even the less than stellar ones you see and yes, even those sites that may be considered competing. As for the ones with no topsite button, I forget what his policy was on , or even if there was one. Most other topsites require that you show a button so it seems like a rule we may have to enforce. Layouts that have inapporiate screenshots should have been replayed with correct ones before they are approved.

Myspace layouts found be set to private have to be removed as well as any site that has been deleted. I suppose a site that goes on hiatus is ok depending on how long they are going/have been on haitus.

The thing about topsites is that there really is no set rules. Jusun told us that all sites could be accepted and no mention about the requirements of topsite buttons (that I know of).

Personally, and this may go against popular opinion, I wouldn't mind being a little bit more strict (not really the word I'm going for) on what's accepted into topsites as far as quality of the sites being approved and stuff. I'm interested in reading other member's feedback on the issue.

Oh, I rejected those layouts set to private or deleted. If the issue of the inapporiate screenshots isn't taken care of when I get back from class then I will work on those too.

Sometimes I wonder if Ju-Sun actually thinks about the effects of said stuff. Why not loosen up and accept all skins, too? rolleyes.gif cB topsite was known to be really competitive among the better cB bloggers and site makers two years ago; now it's a joke.

The topsite is back everyone! Join the topsite and drive traffic to your site. Like all submissions, they first need to be approved before they become available online. Fixed many bugs as well. =)

If Ju-Sun had publicly stated that sites would have to be approved, there should've been a public announcement when the status quo had changed.

I agree with you, Kiera, in that I'd also like for the topsite feature to become more selective and more well screened.. because some of the site submissions are kind of.. embarrassing. ._.

I agree, I mean, even going through the topsites, I feel so weird accepting crappy type stuff.

But, if we enforce the button rule, I think it will narrow it down a lot. happy.gif

I wouldn't mind having rules in the top sites. I remember they said to accept everything and that they need to put the top sites button and stuff up..

-shrugs-

That are some jocked stuff and usually when I see it I just go ahead and reject it because we've or I have had in the past where owners of the stuff have complained.

Someone else also messaged me the other day about the top sites.

Yes, thank you! There really needs to be high standard here. I think we send out a mixed signal when we talk about house cleaning and what not so that our layouts are cB Quality, but then you hop over to topsites and it sometimes feels like a free-for-all. sad.gif

It seems the general consensus is that, yes, topsite should be more exclusive, but without more feedback/response from the design & super moderators, it doesn't seem that anything will be done about it. sad.gif

yes, let's enforce the button rule. That will take care of most of the 'problem'

Screenshot fixed.

Also, I updated most of those sites that needed proper screenshots. I'll work on everything else that needs to be finished tomorrow.

Something that just occurred to me as I was browsing topsite (because of insomnia D: ): is it just me or is the irony in that cB doesn't allow advertising of rival sites and such.. but in topsites, there are sites/myspaces/xangas/whatever that provide layouts as well?

Ya, that totally didn't deserve a new topic so am just posting here. Um. k. :]

cB doesn't allow advertising of any site that isn't personal anymore, not just "rival" sites. I'm still waiting for an answer to whether or not Ju-Sun wants to continue to accept any website submitted (which includes "rival" sites) to topsite or if we should be more selective...
