QUOTE(brownsugar @ Apr 6 2007, 4:05 PM) *
I'm not trying to write you off forever or anything, but learning from past experience I would like to see you doing things more CONSISTENTLY before a promotion.

We're clearly getting a bit off-topic. This isn't about a mentor position at all; I started this discussion to bring up a point about the criteria for staff positions. But this quote relates to that issue, so I'll tie into that.

I'm not sure what you mean by "consistency". I have been consistent. Check my Last Activity on my userpage; I'm here everyday, usually several times. I know what's going on around the site. And I consistently contribute ideas. So is a guy like kryo. As James noted, just because a person is not posting, doesn't mean he isn't active on the forums.

My concern is that a lot of people with good ideas are being forced out simply because they don't post all the time. Look at kryo: I reiterate that he's been with CB since the beginning. He's seen the forum go from a start-up to a respected, active forum. Sure, he might not post all the time, and his posts might be a bit silly, but the guy has good ideas for the direction of the forum. But he doesn't seem to get the respect he deserves, mainly because he isn't posting tons of topics and closing tons of topics.

But so what?

And so what if I don't post daily? So what if I'm not filling up The Lounge with topics that don't interest me, just to remain "active"? That doesn't mean my opinions should be completely invalidated.

This is why CB is aggravating at times. Because everyone's worth is based on this notion of post count, or more concisely, posts per day. Your PPD drops too low and bam! your respect is gone. Doesn't matter if you come everyday. Doesn't matter if you contribute good ideas. All that's remembered is that you aren't "active". And as soon as you aren't "active", no one remembers your past contributions. It's all about quantity, not quality around here. Or at least that's what it feels like.

Suzzette, the NEED for Mentoring, in terms of the big problems which really require huge amounts of serious discussion doesn't remain consistent, either.

If this isn't about a mentor posistion then what the hell have we been talking about? How could we get more off topic, when this whole TOPIC is off topic?

Kryo doesn't get "disrespected" because he's not moderating/closing topcis. Look at his POSTS. Maybe everything he talks about is an inside joke between you two, or him and Michael Jackson or OJ Simpson and Oprah..but no one gets it. So you can't expect people to be pouring their respect out to him if we can't even understand him.

Most of the posts I see from him these days are like, "n00b", "HAHAH WOW HAHAHA" some picture or just complete spam.

Actually, in all fairness, the Mentor thing just kind of spilled over from Backstage, this did start out as relevant to the thread, it was kind of me who led it off topic, so my bad.

No, I really don't.

Are you going to epic fail me?
Are you going to tell me to try harder?

Stop where you're at, both of you; we are not going to dispute the origin of internet jokes and lingo.

James, this is your verbal warning for spamming. Please stop it, now, as you know the rules.

THIS IS WHAT I MEAN.
I'm sure he has very great ideas, but if he isn't communicating that with cB then what is the point of even having them?

Back to posting/being online..you said just because you're not posting, James, doesn't mean you're not online. Then what is the point?? What is the point of you reading everything, seeing everything and not posting about it? It's a FORUM. If you're not posting, what is the point of you? I'm not saying posting is everything, but where do you even START from besides a post?

Once again, as Sammi said, could you please take that discussion out of this thread.

It isn't the only instance of you spamming in the past couple of days.

Oh, and your PM Box is full, so I was unable to send you a confirmation PM.

Geez, I just read over today's part of this thread again, and this pretty much sums it up:

blush.gif Yeah, you caught me being too serious about the Internet again. Don't worry about my manic ramblings. Nothing to see here, folks. No hard feelings.

Whoops, I'm sorry that Arjuna can post macros but when I do it, it's called spam.

And whoops, I'm sorry that I did the same thing when I was a mod, but didn't get in trouble for it.

Yeah, but life's too short to take bits and bytes too seriously. Sometimes it takes kryo's caps of Sneak-King to remind me of that.

He probably warned you for it because I had already said to stop previously and you continued, which would warrant such a thing...

Michael? Right up there above me? Because he posted a picture that was relevant to his post (which wasn't a spam post, it was explaining his position and ending the argument).

It is not my place to take direct disciplinary action against another mod. I don't have that authority.

Please take this, and any other queries regarding discipline up via PM with the specific mod.

Oh ok, so if I was still a mod, I could have gotten away with this. Darn, I was too rash in stepping down!

No, I will not bring this to PMs. This is appropriate for this thread, and I don't want you guys hiding it.

I told you both to stop. Arjuna did, you didn't. huh.gif I told you both right under his post and I don't see him posting a picture after that. Not that I have the power to warn anybody anyway, just saying.

If you were still a mod, one of the Heads/Admins would have handled it, if they thought it was appropriate.

I'm not sure what you think it is I want to hide, being as I haven't actually done anything wrong (or, in fact, complicated), but if you really want to talk about this here, then OK, I suppose. What is your question?
