I just read The Guide by R.K. Narayan. It was good, though I haven't yet figured out "the joke"

FINALLY I GOT A TON OF NEW BOOKS.

Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy
It's great so far. Anna is a very interesting character, very human in her sins and guilt. Her relationship with Vronsky is wrong in all the right ways. I know how it ends, but I still hope it all works out for them. I love all of the somewhat obscure references to Russian poetry and history that require detailed footnotes to make sense and the commentary on Russian politics of the time. My mind is happy when I read this.

The Essential Catholic Catechism by Alaan Schreck

Since my spiritual awakening this spring, I've become more involved in my Church and even more devoted to Jesus Christ. I got this a gift from my aunt after she heard about me. It explains a lot about Catholicism: what distinguishes it from other religions, its core beliefs, the Sacraments and their significance, living one's life according to Christ. It's a good read for anyone interested in Catholicism. Really quite enlightening.

Ick. For SCHOOL.
Grapes of Wrath by Steinbeck.
Incredibly boring. Long winded, too much monotonous description. I've never really been a Steinbeck fan to begin with. The best one was East of Eden, only because it focused mostly on character development than on imagery of the Salinas Valley. This book was so boring that we were supposed to read it for an hour in class today and it put me asleep for 45 minutes.

I finished A Million Little Pieces, by James Frey a short while ago. It was a good book...some parts were pretty graphic.

Oh, I'm reading that book now. It's really good, I like it a lot...
Meh, we're not really reading a book for english class. It's supposed to be The Canterbury Tales but my teacher is incompetent.

I really want to read Cien Años de Soledad (100 Years of Solitude) by Gabriel Garcia Marquez in both English and Spanish. Then, I want to read Garcia Marquez's Memories of My Melancholy Whores.
Oh, I also want to read Memoirs of a Geisha before the movie.

I plan on reading some Annie Proulx and Alice Munro during the break. They're two of the best short story writers around. And some Peter Brooks and Mikhail Bahktin

Keep the topic alive, peeps!

Now that I'm on break, I'm reading so much, I love it.

The Unlikely Romance of Kate Bjorkman by Louise Plummer - It's not the best book in the world but it's a cute little story and one of my favorites. It takes place at Christmas time and I've read it at least once a year, around this time, since I was about 12 or 13.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis - Awesome book. 'Nuff said.

Gossip Girl series by Cecily von Ziegesar - Such trashy reading but it's wonderful. I'm slowly catching up on the series, I've got one book left until I'm on track.

The It Girl by Cecily von Ziegesar - New off-shoot of Gossip Girl. This one features Jenny at boarding school (omg, can you say twist?) Very much like its parent series, but it looks promising.

Next up:
Books Two and Three of the Samurai Girl series, and two short story collections by Annie Proulx and Alice Munro, respectively. After that, another trip to the library where I plan on getting The DaVinci Code by Dan Brown, Wicked by Gregory Maguire, and Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden.

Well I recently finished Ordinary People and The Time Travelers Wife.

Mmm, I LOVED the second book. It was soo good, I finished it in one day!
