THey should get rid of the SAT 1 period! That test proves absolutely nothing, except for the fact that you can walk in and fill in bubbles correctly.

Even though I love to write, and I'm an aspiring author, I'm dreading this. Their removing the things that I excelled at (analogies are simple) and putting it writing. Oh yes, excite us with the riveting topics. blink.gif If they can think of interesting topics I'm all for it. But that's a big IF.

Topics on the SAT II are things like "Does every cloud have a silver lining?" just really generic stuff. You can basically write on whatever you want to write on.

Tough, the real world is full of stress, this helps prepare you for it

Then how do they grade it?

If you can write well, why will it mess up your score?

FALSE, most SAT II writing topics are quotes and you are asked if you agree or disagree.

Example: "The end justifies the means. Do you agree or disagree"

Of course, that is a very simple example, and the ones on the SAT II writing test are a bit longer, but they're just like that.

Um... they grade on how well you write...

You should write like Ernest Hemmingway. Short and to the point. No flowery language. NO gramatical or spelling mistakes.

Um visual fusion... that was a quote... "Every cloud has a silver lining. Argue for or against"... I got an 800 I know what the test is like,.

There always has to be a cutoff year, if not the sophomores, then the freshmen.. one year will be unfortunate; its unavoidable

Then all the best schools will be stocked by Andover/Exeter preppies. Good job. Oh, and some undeserving affirmative action admits... but mainly preppies.

Read it as is ... without the SATs, we will go back to how things were in 1960 where you got into college based on what high school you went to.

Well, as much as a lot of people want the writing SAT test cancelled, they (people who make the tests and approve them) won't probably listen.

most people think that the writing section is gonna be a burden, when in fact it should help most people (unless you're extremely gifted and know a lot of vocab words...or ur just great at memorizing). the writing section is the exact same as the PSAT writing section (with the exception of the essay) or the SAT II writing, but the essay is so open ended that you can pretty much about anything. if i was younger, i'd def. take the new SAT because i'm not that strong at vocab

also, adding a writing section makes the test more balanced. although you can learn the test, it requires more skill rather than just practice. you can learn a lot of vocab but still not know much about the english language, whereas the new section will make sure you're good at the grammar part of english

the new SATs will still require a strong foundation w/ vocabulary.

QUOTE

lol....most colleges will not accept both sats....STATE UNIVERSITIES especially. Better to stick with the new one, cause while some colleges will accept the old, ALL will accept the new.

i agree. also, they give you 20 or 25 minutes, so make sure you go through your essay over and over again till you make sure it's "perfect" (since it's worth 1/3 of the whole thing)

QUOTE

oh man, analogies were horrible, i hated em and i thought they were worthless. i owned the quantative comparison, hardly got any wrong cause it was so easy :D.

I know too many people who wants to resort to the whole "perfect score" thing...

seeing as i'm the class of 06, i'll have to take this new SAT. part of me is happy that the anaogies are gone, but the other part is apprehensive about the new writing section- espeically the essay. but the writing section is similar to the PSAT, except the essay, and the PSAT was pretty easy. but the essay- arg. i can't write for my life... but this makes the SAT more personal i guess. oh well, i guess i'll just have to deal with it.

Well of course, seeing as how there's no good reason to cancel it

Nicely said.. people should read that

You should take both, because colleges will look at both.. a 1600 on the old one is still very impressive

I'm the opposite of you..

1. I don't understand why everyone hates analogies...
2. I like your attitude, recognizing both the favorable and unfavorable aspects, instead of simply bashing the SAT like some others have done
