Okay, so I was wondering (please don't move this to Debate, because it really belongs in here) who you (loyal BTVS fans) believe is/was the real, true Slayer after Buffy died the first time - Buffy or Faith. Here are the facts:
- Buffy died first season at the Master's hands and was revived by Xander.
- Kendra was summoned.
- Kendra died, Faith was summoned.
- Buffy died the second time at the end of the fifth season due to mystical forces and energy and all that jazz. Basically, she died an unnatural death this time.
- No one was supposedly summoned, although it has been mentioned throughout the series that there's another powerful Hellmouth in Cleveland, no? She could've been sent there.
- Buffy took on all the Slayer responsibilities until the end of Sunnydale's Hellmouth, but does that make her the true Slayer?

I think the second time just didn't really count as a "slayer dying" since she had already died once, so Faith was the slayer, seeing as she hadn't died yet.

There was never a prophecy where she would fall in love with a vampire...the prophecies are all about a vampire with a soul who would save the world (ended up being Spike). Yeah.

Faith was the slayer.

^ Actually, the debate is still out on that one (rather it was Spike or Angel that was *the* vampire with the soul of *the* prophecy). Joss never fully answered that because of Angel's premature demise. I raise my anvil and smash it hard on the heads of the then WB execs.

I've been watching Buffy since Welcome to the Hellmouth and have re-watched the entire seasons at least 4 times (some seasons/episodes a great deal more than that as I have all of them on DVD. Yes, be jealous. :p ) I was a part of one of the first Buffy Yahoo Groups (yeah I know, nothing to brag about), but we've been discussing the mythos for almost a decade now (maybe a decade at this point). The consensus is that Faith is the true slayer of lineage now. Buffy, like all of the slayerettes is now just a *slayer*. Having said that, she is the most valuable and powerful slayer. That's not just my opinion, if you ask around, it'll be the opinion of most Buff-buffs. It would seem fairly obvious that this is so because although she died from mystical means (in The Gift), the point is, she still DIED. Also, one could argue that being killed by the Master in season 1 could loosely be interpreted as a mystical death (from which she was also revived) and Kendra (of the Mr. Pointy fame) was called to be the true slayer of lineage. There was no slayer called after The Gift.

i agree with Rebecca. The fact that another slayer was not called after Buffy's second death clearly demonstrates that the line now goes through faith.

I'm gonna say it bluntly cuz I really don't remember all these details that you guys are bringing up.

I think its Buffy, I mean she did end up fulfilling all of the slayer responsibilities and isn't that enough?

Every potential slayer on the planet fulfilled slayer responsibilities...

The question wasn't whether or not she was a slayer fulfulling slayer responsibilities, it was whether or not she was *the* Slayer, the Slayer of lineage. The one whom when she dies, another will be called.

One of my beefs with the BtVS ending was that Joss and Co. made it appear that females scattered around the world were getting that slayer glow (meaning, getting the slayer powers). To me, the concept behind the uniqueness of being a Slayer, and what it was to make all those sacrifices lost its religion. I was ok with the Slayerettes reaching their full potential, but the girl about to swing the bat in the last episode? Come on, Joss. You must have been smoking what my mom refers to as "funny cigarettes."

Yessss but as I was saying earlier, there's been some debate on that because we don't know if another slayer was actually called forth, but just didn't go to Sunnydale. pinch.gif

I think they just said that there was another Hellmouth in Cleveland because they wanted to be able to continue the story if they could.

Why though, if the Watcher's council knew what the First was up to before the unfortunate blowing up incedent, would they not have sent hypothetical slayer to sunnydale to aid the Scoobies, like when they repeatedly ordered Kendra to help out? surely nothing would have topped that for importance...

isnt the slayer blessed with extraordinary strenght? and if this is the case how come she didnt loose it after she died [1st time]? isnt she THE slayer, she kept up throughout the whole show even when she dies and comes back, she still has that "talent"

Mehh for some reason I doubt that. BTVS/ATS writers put things in there on purpose. They're always plotting something. I mean, Joss knew about the Dawn arc since the end of S3, the season they first mentioned Cleveland in ("The Wish").

Oh come on. We all know how incompetent the Watcher's council is. rolleyes.gif Besides, when Buffy died at the end of S5, they knew Glory was defeated and there was no Big Bad. The First hadn't even come into the picture yet.
