A memory just ran through my head of childhood songs I used to learn in Sunday school. I know that this song has a message, but in retrospect the lyrics seem... I do I put this? Slightly off....
QUOTE I just want to be a sheep, Baa, Baa, Baa, Baa, I just want to be a sheep, Baa, Baa, Baa, Baa, I pray the Lord my soul to keep, I just want to be a sheep, Baa, Baa, Baa, Baa. I don't want to be a Pharisee, I don't want to be a Pharisee, Cause they're not fair, you see. I don't want to be a Pharisee. I don't want to be a Sadducee, I don't want to be a Sadducee, Cause they're so sad, you see. I don't want to be a Sadducee. Here is one my grandmother used to sing to me. It deeply disturbed me for a long time. QUOTE Oh, don't you remember, a long time ago, Those two little babies, their names I don't know They were stolen away one bright, summer's day And left in a wood, so I've heard folks say. Pretty babes in the wood Pretty babes in the wood Oh, don't you remember Those babes in the wood Now the day being gone and the night coming on Those two little babies sat under a stone They sobbed and they sighed, they sat there and cried Those two little babies they laid down and died Now the robins so red, how swiftly they sped They put out their wide wings and over them spread And all the day long on the branches they throng They sweetly did whistle and this was their song That's one fucked up thing to sing to a five year old. Do you remember any childhood songs? Did they have any effect on you? |
