Here's a trailer for a USMC recruit training documentary. Of all that I've seen, this seems to capture the intensity. Hollywood waters things down and hypes a lot up.

And I have dial-up :(
But I don't get how people can get educated on the miltary through movies. I recently saw Annapolis. Which is about the naval acadamy and nothing was on point. I kept saying "They don't do that" And Navy basic training is only an 8 week program. I have family and friends who are marines, and it's probably the hardest basic. I'd say Navy SEAL training is harder, but that's not basic training. lol. |

The Marine Corps doesn't have a medical/dental division. So, we rely on the Navy. For that reason, the Navy gets my respect. However, their physical fitness standards post boot camp is a joke (unless you're a SEAL). There's certainly a given allure with becoming a SEAL but compared to USMC Force Recon, they're just another elitist covert operation group. Everyone has a purpose and the SEALs have a legacy of doing well.
BUUUUUT, Semper Fi 'til I die.
