Is being shallow a sign of ignorance? Pauline and I were having a conversation about it, and we're not really sure. What are your thoughts on the matter?

According to Pile:
"Shallow is just hoenst. I like to look at beautiful things, and people are included. Appearance is the first thing you notice about everything. It's the most important sense to humans."

According to a douche bag (and I'm being kind) named Smiles:
"Philosophically, you are the biggest moron I know. You go through life only finding joy in the plastic things. Them things fade. And yes, shallow people are degenerate lower life forms."

xo, Pauline

f**k a shallow hoe.

There's more to life than material things; there's more to life than keeping up with the ratrace of physical beauty and there's certainly more to life than worrying about the lives of others.

I believe that those who are truly shallow lack intelligence or, at least, a good amount of common sense.

There are more to material things than what you give them credit for. Sure, a lot of material things are overpriced, and people are too caught up with their own physical beauty, but it's all just another art form. Think of a shallow person as an art critic rather than an ignorant f**k. you know?

Depends on the *shallow* person. Some people just aren't bright and come off as shallow. To me, the person that is intelligent and knowledgeable, yet still absorbed in only that which they can show, tell, smell, etc.. those are the worst of the shallow.

In all honesty, I don't think being shallow is relevant to being ignorant.

^i beg to differ.

when you're a shallow person, you only use your five senses to judge a person, meaning that you only judge them based on their appearence, the way they smell, etc. therefore, you are ignorant of what is beyond all that and you are potentially missing out on far more important things.

I'm going to have to agree with this post. I mean, being shallow hints at a lot of things, but I wouldn't say ignorance is one of them.

i agree. irl, when i first see someone criticizing another about their appearence/etc, i automatically sense some ignorance in them.

I sense ignorance in the fact that you're stating that all people who criticize others by their outside appearances are shallow. I'm the type of person who can tell someone they're not attractive, yet still get to know them. Yeah, I'm the kind of person who wouldn't normally start an intimate relationship with someone who I don't find physically attractive, but that doesn't mean I'm not aware of what kind of person they are.

Basically, what people are saying is that a shallow person is lacking knowledge of people's personalities because they don't ever look past the superfical features.

shallow is ignorant.

shallow people are close-minded. they're not open to other things.

shallow people find things appealing in their own eyes. if not, they'll just walk pass by it ...

Close-mindedness doesn't equate to ignorance, though. It simply signifies that a person has a shorter threshhold of interest.

Would you consider a person ignorant if they were close-minded, yet correct and successful about/in most facets of life?
