Ok so, I recently just started work as a lifeguard and part of that is a morning workout which includes a 3 mile run. Usually that would be fine (I do track and such) but lately I have been getting severe sharp pains in my lower side and upper shoulders while running.
Has anyone ever experienced anything like this before or know what it could be? I tried to google it but it came up with like 5849589545 results. |

I think the pains are normal. I can't imagine having to run 3 miles. I'll start having pain in my stomach within the first quarter or half a mile.

yeah, i think they're normal. i get cramps whenever i run.

It's not cramps though, its a sharp pain that comes and goes every few seconds

oh...sharp pains? hm...i get those too, but if they really hurt and continue to occur, i'd see a doctor.

Well then, I'm stumped, lol. You should ask the other lifeguards if they ever get the same problem running in the same conditions. I guess I would just suggest that you not strain too hard, run with your arms lower than your chest, relax your upper body, breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth and keep a comfortable and steady pace. If the sharp pains get too severe or frequent, I think you should just see a doctor.

mm..a 'treatment might include a combination of regular painkillers, hot and cold packs applied several times a day, and a trip to the osteopath, chiropractoc of even the physiotherapist' i guess.

I used to get them in my lower sides when I ran, but it was pretty much just from not drinking enough water and such. But just to be safe, you might want to get checked out to make sure it isn't anything more serious. In the meantime, I hope you feel better, Jackie my love
