if i have an image with a irregular shaped border how can i make the background of it transparent instead of white or whatever?

yeaa, buh somebody told me there was an easier way, something to do with saving it as a .gif

Cutt off the bg by using maybe a lasso tool just get rid of the background.
Paste it on a new transparent image. Then save it as .gif (make sure your settings are set to gif transparent.) |

You can also use a PNG. PNG has a better image quality than JPEG (and way better than GIF) but also supports transparency.
However, most versions of IE do not support transparent PNG's. |
