Alright guys, I was actually trying to apply for a job somewhere and it asked me if I was authorized to work in Canada.

I'm not an adult yet, so would that consider me to be not authorized? Or are they not thinking legally, but checking your records *is confused*

Well, in the US I think that just means if you're not from the US, like you're in here with a green card or whatever, does the green card say you can work or something like that.

I asked one lady about that and she said something close to that (what I said).

Whether she's right or not..I haven't a clue, though.

Yeah non citizens need work permits. If they don't have one then they cannot work legally. I think that is right. Not 100% sure though.

I had to get a work permit from my school to work since I'm under 18 (which is silly, since it's legal at 16), so maybe it's something like that?

The work permit is to ensure that your employer knows that it's illegal to give you more than x number of hours a week (I forget the number) because you're still a full-time student.

If you're a citizen or permanent resident in Canada, I'm sure you can work, even if you are under 18.

Yeah exactly^2

It you are still in school your school had to authorize you to work or something like that. Because if your are failing a certain number of classes you can't work. It is something like that.

And therefore, if you drop out of school, a work permit from the school is not necessary because you wouldn't be a student.

Oh damn, I accidentally put No >_>

Shit. So what do you think the best thing is to do? Call their help line... but how would I explain it to them? Would they even give a crap?

Contact someone in proper position to help you, e.g. a manager. Just say you were confused about what "authorized" meant and you put no. Tell them your situation.

If it's like the US, you have to get working papers if you are a minor. They have them at your school.

There are certain exceptions. If you read the back of the card/papers they are stated.

Hm.. well the thing is with my situation, they actually haven't hired anyone yet, it's more like a grand opening if you can say that.

It's actually a Best Buy that was built and now needs some hiring. On the site they say there's a contact phone line which is open from Mon-Fri. From there, I don't know how to say it. I was confused about your authorized question and want to correct it - I can work?

But then it's not like they'd take the time to actually go through the applications right.. Ahhh I feel idiotic now

Or just redo the application? Is it online or paper?

How can you safely assume that? If they have a phone line, just call. You're nervous but don't be. You have nothing to lose if you call. _smile.gif

Where in Canada, btw?

Also, @Sherlock: They had some kinda cookie remembering thing.
