Mmm. I was too lazy to extend it to a short story, so here 'tis.
Altruism Hrm...flies. It's rather ironic that they're more vivacious than humans, but yet it takes a couple of mere weeks for them to die. Most people over twenty look like the walking dead. Maybe it's because they're more aware of their impending death. Maybe it's becaues they have not the slightest clue. For us, most realize Death awaits us, but don't quite fathom nor comprehend it until we reach the age of about 50. The thing is Death can pound down our door in ten years...a month...tomorrow...even this instant. Immunity, unfortunately, will never rest in human hands, although many are under the false assumption that it already does. It is greatly for this reason that the average human doesn't truly value life. For myself, I reailze this, and these beliefs have thus led to the value of my own life. Although I have done notable things I am not proud of, everyone has done so whether they like to admit it or not. In contrast towards others', however, mine stand as minor offenses. This leads me to wonder why the fly that disturbed my slumber whizzes around a lifeless corpse. It further makes me question why my one hand clutches a tape recorder and the other, a notecard with my name printed across it. |
