What the... PHYSICAL EDUCATION IS A MUST. Do you not see all these obese and unfit children in America? We're top in obesity, which is so freaken sad! Imagine what children would look like if there was never such a thing.

are you kidding me.

PE BANNED?!

that's like the HIGHLIGHT of my day.

At my school, we can choose whether we want it or not.

I think that's the best choice.

p.e. should be required but the teachers need to grade on effort and participation, not athletic ability.

It should be an elective. It shouldn't be banned or required. Just let students take it if they want to. Of course, probably 98% of the students might pick it. happy.gif

Physical Education shouldnt be banned.. but it shouldnt be forced on anyone.. Its just a preference thing. Being fit is good but some ppl might want to focus on school work or use the time for a recess or free time. I keep fit out of school. Alot easier at the comfort of ur own home!

I really hate gym class. They should make P.E. live up to it's name. During P.E. I never learned anything about health, nutrition, exercise, or new sports. We played boring games and ran a lot. Physical Education should cover more than just the main sports at the school during that season. During the fall, all we ever did was run and play flag foot ball. During the winter all we did was basketball, and during the spring it was only soccer.

With the serious obesity problems in the U.S. they shouldn't ban P.E. but they should make it educational and fun.

They shouldn't ban it, but they should have it optional. It allows people to learn new sports if they want and work out a bit. =] It's a nice way to use school time to keep from being obese. ^^

Man, PE is all that's keeping America from becoming a giant singular ass.

Tell me about it... half of America already is a giant ass made of lard...

I don't remember where i heard this, but from what i know, P.E started because during WWI or WWII (i'm thinking it's WWII) when people got drafted for the war, they were SOOOOO out of shape, it was sad mellow.gif So then they made it a must in the schools.
My old highschool made us take it the first two years then the next two, you had to take another elective. My new one makes us take it every year pinch.gif

It should be required, or else you'd see more fat people everyday. Also because it's my favorite class _smile.gif

PE should be required, but not for a letter grade. it sucks to have PE bring down your GPA.

ditto...our pe teacher is pretty cool...although he kinda makes fun of me for being ditzy...thats not new to me...im ok with that..._smile.gif

Yes it is necessary.. because though some ppl exercise on their own.. too many do not.. and well.. alright, it is not the government's right to be concerned about the people's diets and lifestyles.. BUT the parents should be concerned about their own child's exercise.. I think the system we have works fine.. PE is mandatory for 2 years, but sports/independent PE is substitutable (if that's a word.. x.x)

ban it!? WHY!?

we discuss this in my major...the problem is you have underqualified people teaching an understaffed and under-budgeted program called PE....

with major reform, mandatory attendance, and some government help

thered be alot of people graduating with my degree qualfiied to make PE worthwhile....

what kind of reform? and why should attendance be necessary? what if someone were already getting lots of exercise on their own.. such as playing a sport or something..

reform: hire competent, certified, degree-holding teachers. put together a more useful, productive program.

and attendance has to be mandatory for it to work. If it's not, the ones who play sports are gonna be the ones taking it bc itll be fun. the obese and fat kids wont take it bc theyre obese and fat, and it kind of defeats the purpose of having gym in the first place.
