I don't think we can afford to lose PE. Too many obese people in the U.S. lol. The only way they would really be able to ban PE is if they find out that sweat can spread diseases. Other than that fat kids will have to continue to "suffer" in PE. laugh.gif

You're right, and then all those workout gyms will have to go out of business, so will professional sports and any kind of activity that will make a person sweat. LOL. Kind of sad, really.

Why should it be banned? Its lost here somewhere, but like someone said, PE is the only way some lazy kids get the workout they need to stay healthy. Actually, not even, because there are those clever bastards that come up with excuses to skip it... many people did that in my HS.
But still. Someone also said that in his/her college they require a fitness class in order to graduate. Same in mine. Haven't taken it yet, but will next year. I've heard that they have to do diet analysis and everything. Eh, we'll have to see. I do weight training every day anyway.

Point is, PE is extremely beneficial. It perhaps should not be *required*, but not an option either... dunno if that made sense. Make people take it for their own good, but not in a way that will affect their academic progress, or something to that matter.

PE should be required it shouldnt be banned. but the thing is the gym teachers should limit each person to what they can do ... like for example we have physical tests after the first month of gym in my school and they have to do like crunches, shuttle runs, and running a mile... i am not skinny i am chubby i would say and i dont think running a whole mile is gunna do me right like i have to run first and get used to it .. but some other people are already physically fit and its nothing to them but in order to get a good grade in running a mile you have to run the mile in 8 minutes for an A and i dont think thats fair cause some people arent capable to do it...

but on the other hand the lazy people who dont do anything at gym should get bad grades because they doint put effort into it. our nation is spoiled and getting lazier by the minute. im sorry to offend some of you people out there but it is true.

people invent gadgets and technology out there to make like simple but some things are crazy like remote controls. if you lose it people get up to look for it rather than change the chanel.. hahah its funny cause you spend like 10 minutes trying to find the remote when you could of gone up to change the chanel.. but yea people get lazy... if the remote control was cancelled in making i think we wouldnt survive.lol

I think it should be required. Now a days, a lot of people are lazy, and that one period of PE class is probably the only time people will get any exercise.

i hated P.E. but i needed it to graduate from high school...i'm not really sure what it's purpose is except for staying fit and i guess fighting obesity problems but I don't need it at my college, why the hell would you pay to take a gym class anyway, college is bonkers!

why does it have to be required or banned? can't it just be optional?

and for all of you guys saying that obese people need it... i took PE for part of last year, and we did nothing but sit around in the gym. now i'm taking dance, so it's all good.

I agree, it should be optional and if your teachers were letting you sit around, I think its only adding to the obesity probs, but anyway, you were damn lucky _smile.gif

Like [x]poised said, it should be optional. I hate it when people complain "America's youth is obese because of junk food sold at school, they don't get enough exercise, and they're lazy!"

Well, no one TOLD you to buy the junk food at school, and no one TOLD you not to get exercise. It's all our own decision. Sure, if you require people to take PE and make people eat good food during lunch, you'll change it a little. But the truth is, if people don't care about healthy food and exercise, chances are they won't do it outside of school. Making kids do it in school won't change their lifestyle outside of school.

Should teenagers have the option to clean or not clean their rooms or to go to school or not go to school?

Well, they should, but who's going to have to clean up their mess or who's going to take responsibilty for their lack of education? Everyone else, whether directly, or indirectly. I think, the same can be said about not having PE.

The lunch ladies do not care whether or not you eat, but your parents do and so should you.

That's what I said about instead of banning it or making it optional, it should be improved.

I don't think PE should target obese people only. It's silly to think that all PE does for students is make them fit. Being fit or not is just part of the training and part of the the will to be fit. PE simply lay the foundations of being active, team-oriented, good sportsmanship... etc.

well in my school you have to take PE for 3.5 years and you have to have half of year of health, So we're forced to take gym but you can drop your gym class if you play a sport but you may only drop it while that sport runs. So yeah, but I think that PE is GREAT! except when we have swimming stubborn.gif stubborn.gif which i have as we speak of I hate smelling like chlorine, taking a shower only helps but it still smell like chlorine! lol, I hate swimming!! lol but toher than that PE shouldnt be BAN! it keeps me in shape before tennis begins

i think yes cuz people these days have health/weight problems, but i also think its a waste of time and money cuz when i'm in pe (my last year of it) i dont really get a work out. The only time i get a workout is when i had soccer.

Instead of getting rid of PE, they should improve the curriculum. That way, you'd get a good work out.

i think it needs to be required. only because over half of the world is overweight and at least some of the overweight kids would get a little excercise. as for the average and underweight kids, they would just get more excercise.

if over half the world is overweight, can they still be considered overweight?
