dont know.. I'm still thinking that it wouldnt be such a good idea.. because think about it.. how many kids are in the school.. and trying to offer sports classes for them all..

And what of the kids that WANT PE?

well guess thats true but there are other people who dont want it so they could offer both options i guess. that would solve some things

QUOTE
heck no they shouldn't cancel it. USA already has Mcdonalds and we are known for our obsesity... now little children are going to be stuffing themselves with Fast food and won't have a way to burn it off. KEEEEP P.E.!

Oh yeah.. at my school if you do a sport for like 10 hours a week or more you don't have to do P.e. because they know you are getting your exercise.. but for all the people that don't..P.E. SAVES LIVES!!

another point but not everyones obese and kids could eat more healthy food even though they might not like it as much. but the thing is, for those people who are in PE and dont like it, theyre not likely to do much so as a result, PE wont be helpful to them. if those select people were in some sports education program that they liked more, they would be more motivated to exercise rather than stand or sit around in PE

But it'd be complex and difficult for the schools to do..

You seem extremely confident that everyone has a sport that they'll enjoy playing..

well not exactly a sport they would enjoy playing, but im talking about the people who dont really like PE and some of the sports they have to participate in during that class, so as a solution, they could pick some sport which they do not dislike not neccessarily one they would enjoy playing. basically a "neutral" sport

And how many people would that be compared to the people that like PE? I mean.. you shouldnt realli go changing a system unless the vast majority of people favor the change

The thing is.. in high school.. its true.. the majority of ppl in PE just want to get it over with.. not too motivated..

The ones that are motivated go out and play on sports team anyways (so there realli arent very many ppl in PE because of the alternatives to it.. ie: sports, marching band, independent PE); and by offering this option would (speaking from personal experience) greatly diminish already small PE class sizes and strain resources

im going into ninth grade n my district has high school starting in 10th so i wouldnt know. we just have everyone in PE classes regardless of whether or not theyre on a team

QUOTE

well its true that the option would reduce the sizes of PE classes but they may just have a reduced amount of classes

UHh... people who are in P.e. and dont like it *me* still do stuff.. they want good grades and will do things to earn it.. and uh in p.e. they do a variety of sports, so they do get to do their sport that they enjoy too.. along with other sports as well. Maybe everyone's not obese BECAUSE of p.e. I'm pretty sure kids would rather have p.e. and eat junk then having to be healthy all of the time.. I know i would rather and i dont even like p.e...bc that would SUCK. so uh yeah. p.e. all the way mann

Most PE classes i've seen and been in, they require you to dress everyday, 5 days undressed gives u a fail on your 5 week progress report. Now dressing, i think that burns about maybe 50 calories....thats nothing compared the 2000+ daily calorie intake.

on another note, PE isn't really PE in my opinion. They teach you how to play dodgeball, prisoner, and all these other wussy games. Rather than that why don't they actually explain what carbohydrates, minerals, and amino acids do for your body. I didn't learn about protein and all those things until i came into high school.

Its not like dressing out is the onli thing you do in PE..

And well.. PE is a way for kids to exercise.. you dont just play "wussy games"; lets see.. we did basketball, field hockey, soccer, track and field, and conditioning every other day..

But I agree on the diet stuff.. they should have some section on that

well im talking about PE in middle school, i didn't learn about baskeball or hockey or all the other stuff. In my middle school you could dress and not do anything because there are about 6 teachers a period for about 300 students, they wont always be there to make every kid participate. The only time they can actually grade you is when they take roll. For high school i dont kno because i don't take PE and im in a sport, but i've seen ppl that don't dress, they don't get locked up in the gym and just sit til the end of the period.

it should be more than that, like 5-12 because in grades 9-12 is when your body most changes, so you might get fat or skinny, so the kids should learn that

most students hardly ever exercise and obesity is increasing..

well the thing is...most students in PE dont exercise...they just do stuff when they see theyre being watched..and since theyre not gonna be watched the whole period, theyre not gonna do much...PE in my opinion doesnt really do much to help decrease the obesity of people

Some people are forced to take other classes they don't want. Math, english, and etc. People are just arguing in the USEFULLNESS of P.E. I know for a fact that P.E. and recess were first created to have the children use up all their excess energy. So that regular classes wont be filled with rowdy, too energetic kids. I, personally, would like to have P.E. just to have fun, since recess is no longer with us in high school. cry.gif

It realli depends on the teachers I suppose.. the PE teachers I had were all pretty good about making people participate

Some people who are forced to go to P.E. dont even do anything cuz they're too cool to get sweaty. SO i dont see how that helps prevent obesity. They should at least replace P.E. with a health class.
