okay..i was just wondering if you guys think that taking the morning after pill is considered abortion...for those of you who dont know..the morning after pill is a pill you take withthin 72 hours after having sex just in case you got pregnant..the pill kills the sperm and the egg that has joined, therefore a baby is not created..

sooo..what are your views on the morning after pill?

It just prevents it from the egg and sperm from implanting onto the uterus. It doesn no harm if it already is implanted, so I honestly see nothing wrong with it. Hey, it's better than having the fetus suctioned out of you when it actually more developed

Yeah.

Abortion is when you're ending a life that has already been started..the morning after pill is preventing that life from even being started in the first place..

Yeah, the morning after pill shouldn't really be considered abortion. Like what others said, its prevention from even having a life in you in the first place.

It shouldn't be considered abortion at all..people don't understand the definition of abortion:

Abortion
N.
Termination of pregnancy and expulsion of an embryo or of a fetus that is incapable of survival.

Actually, by that definition it is a sort of abortion.

Main Entry: emˇbryo
Pronunciation: 'em-brE-"O
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural emˇbryˇos
Etymology: Medieval Latin embryon-, embryo, from Greek embryon, from en- + bryein to swell; akin to Greek bryon catkin
1 a archaic : a vertebrate at any stage of development prior to birth or hatching b : an animal in the early stages of growth and differentiation that are characterized by cleavage, the laying down of fundamental tissues, and the formation of primitive organs and organ systems; especially : the developing human individual from the time of implantation to the end of the eighth week after conception

But the pill doesn't allow it to implant. So if it hasn't implanted yet, then how can it "sort of" be like an abortion, based on your definition?

Depends on what pill you're talking about. However, I suppose you are correct as those pills generally refered to as "Morning After" are not chemical abortion drugs, but they simply prevent fertilization. But, on the other hand, the most infamous of "Morning After Pills", the RU-486, does indeed abort a fertilized egg, making it a chemical abortion drug.

The RU-486 isn't a morning after pill at all... it is an abortion pill, no doubt about that.

So is the debate between whether it is a contraceptive or an abortion? The answer is irrelevant, since both are wrong.

It's not considered abortion. From what I understand, it forces your body to have a period, at least that was the description of the one I took. So as people have already said, there is no fetus to abort.

The morning after pill is a pretty difficult subject, I think you should be allowed to get it over the counter because it's a timed thing. You have to get that pill in your system as soon as possible. But if it was that easy to get the pill, people would be less safe and use it as a form of contraception. I was lucky to get it, my darling's friend had one just in case and gave it to me. There would have been no other way for me to have gotten one since I was 17 at the time and my parents hold my medical stuff so I couldn't have just gone to the doctor to get a prescription.

I wouldn't consider it an abortion either. Then again, I guess it would depend on the time you took the pill, correct?

What do you mean by that? huh.gif

And no, kryogenix, the debate is just about whether it is abortion or not. You thinking contraception is wrong anyways is irrelevant itself. The topic starter simply wants to know if it's considered abortion.

I don't think the moring after pill can be put any where near abortion . This pill prevents the problem before it happens.

aˇborˇtion
1. Termination of pregnancy and expulsion of an embryo or of a fetus that is incapable of survival.

You can't kill something that was never there in the first place, so no, its not a form of abortion.
