oh no, i dont mean that im going to revoke that ability. i mean in principle. ofcourse, staff members still need to be able to close topics for unexpected circumstances, like spamming and advertising.

on the other hand, i really wish staff members were a bit more lax when it comes to the lounge. in my previous forum, it was called 'random thought' with a description of 'post whatever is on your mind. unmoderated forum.' i wish the lounge could be something like that, where members just post anything thats on their minds, without having to worry about it being closed because it was talked about some 23423421 years ago.

That's really true... I think that the staff (including myself!) should be a bit more lax because people are beginning to get pissed, I think. Even I'm afraid of making topics now because someone's going to find an obscure, dead topic, post the link and close it. At least, we should make the lounge unmoderated except for the moving or possibly merging of topics.

if we continue on like this, where topics get closed because it revists an older topic, sooner or later, there will be nothing to talk about. period.

I agree. But wouldn't it gonna go crazy without mods? Why don't you let them control SOME parts?

Mods will still have mod powers in the Lounge it's just going to be more lax, like the lounge really should be. And Jusun already addressed that earlier in this thread.

^x2 He mentioned on the previous page that they still have their powers. (Sounds so magical.) But anyway. They still can move close and merge topics, it's just that they'll be more relaxed and less strict.

so i posted this in backstage. so there you have it.

QUOTE
Staff members should never ACTIVELY seek to moderate topics. We want to give people as many opportunities to participate as possible! It's really hard to get to know the people if you arent given the chance to interact with them. So back off a bit and let them! You're not here to POLICE the forums, you're here to make it a better place! Please remember that!

So that means, instead of actively moderating, only moderate things that MUST be moderated. Like spam. But other than that, you should try to be friendly and help build a fun, friendly, and tightnit community.

Also, keep in mind that "The lounge" should be free from moderating, expect if its a blatant violation of the community guidelines.

Yup! Just read it. _smile.gif I completely agree about that and of course we'd still have the ability to moderate when needed naturally, but simply to be more lax since it is the 'lounge'.

I'm all for things being less uptight around here.

I think it'll promote a better place to hang out on the internet.
Not so many rules and regulations. It's all good :)

Excellent. This makes the forums much more enjoyable and also gives the mods a considerably less amount of work to worry about! =)

Hmmm...what happens if there's a longstanding topic on the first page and then someone makes like, the same topic, cause they just didn't look?...Can we still merge them?

Nooo. mellow.gif We need the ability to close topics...it's not necessarily bad all the time, but...we definitely need that.

Just tell mods to be more lenient on closing topics that have been dead for a year. I know I like to make my own topics if the topics have been gone forever, so I would definitely follow that suggestion.

Agreed. I think we need Mod's in ALL forums because poeple post very.... well... DUMB things i dont mean random off topic i mean DUMB... Mod's should just be more "Lenient" On the whole closing topics...

i share justin's sentiment that a bit of offtopicness never hurt anyone.

its FUN. people are here for FUN, NO Tto post within strict limitations of a topic.

the mod scan still use their judgement if something is out of hand. but for the most part, just CHILL, for goodness sake

Well no. =/

If this whole board is supposed to be PG-13, then moderators need the power to close threads that aren't.

But yeah, I REALLY don't think mods need to close "dead" topics. If you don't want people posting in them, then delete them. But that's still not a good idea.

Even if a person was asking for advice in a thread and finally made it to a conclusion, I still think that a person should be able to post even after that. It could lead to more discussion, so why not?

Advertising topics definitely need to be closed, and others that really go against the community guidelines.

But I agree that we should be able to talk more freely here. :)

i think it may be a good idea to have the lounge free because even though some people may have a SIMILAR topic it could be a situation ?

if you read the entire thread, it was not proposed that the power to close threads which violate community guidelines, e.g. in terms of inappropriate content be taken away from teh mods, so that argument is irrelvant.

and how on earth is deleting dead threads a different solution fom just closing them?
