She walked lightly on the pavement. Almost dream-like. Thoughts kept running through her head and she wondered what time it was. When she got to the bus stop there were three other kids. Norman was one of them, she knew him, but they didn't talk much. James came a little later and she was never so glad to see him, the uncomfortable feeling that morning started to fade away until the bus came to pick them up. She took one last breath of the fresh, dewy air, and stepped inside. Damnit, she almost wanted to say it out loud. There was AJ sitting in one of the seats alone. Not that she didn't know he'd be there. Intersession isn't just something you can go to any time you want. But she was hoping he wouldn't be the first thing her eyes would land on the moment she came on the bus. She gave him a fake smile and sat across from him. Looking through the window so she wouldn't have to the urge to look at him again. Jan wasn't there this time, and James and her didn't talk once they sat down. She was lonely. She wondered what AJ was thinking, pondering the last few words her friend Kat had told her he said. She told herself she'd find a flower when she came home that afternoon. And play "he loves me, he loves me not". It was stupid, but anything would help her feel better. The bus took it's last turn and dropped them off to school. 'Should I walk with him?' She hated being alone anyway. They started to the gate in silence. 'This hurts..so bad..'
Ruben and Rachael came to school late, so the two of them would be standing around waiting for a while. More than anything she wanted to hit him. Hurt him just as much as he did. But she just looked away. And when he tried to talk or make her laugh she'd just go along with it. Ruben came around and she was more than alone now. There they were talking and excluding her. As she watched sadly Rachael finally appeared. She quickly took her to the girls room to break down about everything that just happened. AJ will never know how much she really feels about him. Ever. The first period went by like a breeze, they were at lunch. Things got back to normal and she was fooling around, enjoying the few minutes of break. As soon as the bell rang her mood took place again. Ugh. She hated her last class. It went longer and she had it with him. She and him had all the same classes but this one was different. Two minutes until they got out. 'Yes!' and she remembered her pain instantly after that. She looked at her sorrow one last time, two rows and two seats away from her. His head was back to hers. 'I love you, but you'll never feel the same, huh?' She came home depressed. Who cares about the stupid flower now. Instead (Nikki) just fell into a long sleep.
