Bin Laden niece set for US reality TV show
NEW YORK (AFP) - The would be pop star niece of Al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden has signed on for a reality television show about her attempts to break into the music industry.

Wafah Dufour, a US citizen who lives in New York, inked the deal for the as yet untitled series with producer Judith Regan, whose previous credits include the mafia reality show "Growing Up Gotti."

"Wafah is a beautiful and talented singer who, like so many twenty-somethings, has a dream to make it in the music business," Regan said in a statement Friday.

Dufour, who was born Wafah Bin Ladin, said she was only too aware of the baggage that came with her family name.

"I understand that when people hear my last name, they have preconceived notions, but I was born an American and I love my country," Dufour said.

"As a musician, my life is simply about the music, which is truly the universal language that we all can understand," she added.

Dufour is the daughter of Carmen Dufour Bin Ladin, who wrote the bestseller "Inside the Kingdom: My Life in Saudi Arabia," and Yeslam Bin Ladin, bin Laden's half-brother.

"Her story will bridge the gap that people feel exists between the cultures she has lived in," Regan said.

"Her history and her quest for stardom will make for a compelling television series -- she is a musician, a young woman, and most important a human being," she added.

this is ridiculous. i'm just completely pissed that she's going to have her own reality tv show. oh blah blah "i changed my last name because of my uncle's infamy" that's a load of sh*t. first of all, if that was true why does she keep talking about it? plus, if it wasn't for him she wouldn't have this show and nobody would have even heard of her or her dream of having a music career. it infuriates me that someone made a deal allowing her to bank on the country her assh*le of an uncle attacked

if she's a real musician she should do it all on her own, instead of using her uncle's infamy though she denies it.

Two results could happen:
1. No one watches/likes it just because, well, she's bin Laden's niece.
2. Everyone watches it because she's bin Laden's niece, end up loving it, and she gets richer than she already is.

I don't think they let her have a record deal just because she is Osama's niece. It never said they did. The press just finds it appalling she's a niece of Osama. (she's very pretty too)

But I do find it ridiculous, that she is telling everyone she is Osama's niece even after chanigng her name . jesus christ the reason why you change names is to keep it confidential.
