What the heck? How are blacks more deserving than any other race? Ever think that you learn more about white people in history class is because pretty much all the major inventions and scientific advancements were made by whites / Americans / Europeans? Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, in the month of May.
National Hispanic Heritage Month, during September 15 to October 15.

I never denied that those of European descent contributed a lot to this country. However, African Americans didn't (and still don't) get nearly enough credit and often, textbooks will credit whites as inventing things that were actually from the mind of a black person.

Also, most scientific theorems were created while those scientists were still living in Europe, particularly England. The United States was still in the age of colonization when chemistry was a popular form of scientific study in the UK. Besides, blacks were not allowed an education until relatively recently, in historical perspective. Hence the whites "who came up with pretty much all the theorems, inventions, etc."

Well obviously. We as american citizens, ARE AMERICANS. Yeah, obviously there's a big difference between being an American and being a Native American.

Well, I know that. But in your original post, you grouped Europeans and Americans together in the same category as far as technological contributions go. If you're talking about current American citizens, that would include the African Americans, Latino Americans, Asian Americans, and dozens of other races who live here, too.

Yes, actually I did. Although some African countries practiced such things, most black slaves were kidnapped and mistreated. Ever seen Roots? Good series.

Alot of you make generalizations and assumations, like someone said that they can't stand black people because they purposely make themselves look like the victim, another said all asians are nerds, all native americans are dead, all white people are racist and etc. It isn't everyone who said things like that racist though? Isn't that racism, to assume that people of one race are a certain way?The most unracist thing I know of is death, no matter what race we are, what we do, what has happened to us, we all die.

We've all suffered, maybe not from the same things but we suffered at one period in time haven't we? Racism isn't the only thing that has made people suffer. Diseases like cancer aren't racist but lots of people still suffer from that, love isn't racist and (heart broken) people suffer from that, hunger isn't racist but we still suffer from that. Shouldn't we focus on important things like curing diseases and doing something about global warning, instead of fighting about who gets a month or not?

Everyone has the right to an opinion, no matter how stupid you may think it to be and if you do think my post is stupid, just say it. Its your opinion, I'll accept it as that. Just because its your opinion doesn't mean its true and I don't care. You have never walked a thousand miles in my shoes or know a thing about me, so your opinion isn't completely true, you haven't evaulated everything about me to form a true and honest opinion, you're only forming your opinions on bits and pieces but it is your opinion and you are entitled to think it.

Race months to me are pointless, I mean it is good to be like "Yay, people like me did something for the world!" and take pride in your race. I think people only want race months to be honored and feel special for the accomplishments that thier race made. Face the facts, those aren't your accomplishments. Why should you be able to take pride in those accomplishments? Why should you get attention, honor and special care for nothing you helped with or had anything to do with? You have to work for it, if you want all those things. The only time you deserve to be honored, get attention and special care if you worked to accomplish something.

And if you really do want a race month for whatever race you are, then don't argue about it online that does nothing to help your cause. Start a petition, give speechs and etc, whining about how you don't have a month online doesn't mean anything. If you really want that month badly, you have to work for it. Things aren't always handed to you. Getting what you want is something you have to work for.

What the heck? How are blacks more deserving than any other race? Ever think that you learn more about white people in history class is because pretty much all the major inventions and scientific advancements were made by whites / Americans / Europeans? I'm not saying that others arent capable of it, but its true. (Not to be racist or anything).

A white history month would be nice for us to be able to celebrate our European heritage. Same for any other race... Asians, Hispanics, ect.

You're right. We learn more about white people in classes because they contributed to a lot inventions and scienftific advancements we use today. Which is one reason why we dont need a white history month. We hear about these people all year long. Black history month isn't a holiday or a clebration where us black people get together and act like we're more deseving than other races with parades and parties. Its a month where we recognize the black men and women who also contributed to our society as well. I'm in my 12th year in school, and I never heard about a black scientist, political activist, writer, or inventor outside of black history month. I'm grateful for this month.

FYI There is a Hispanic and Asian history month. Sptember 15 - October15 is Hispanic History Month and May is Asian Pacific American Heritage Month.

i'll agree with some of wat was said before me. blacks are the highest spenders out of any race and that DOES have something to do with our social standing. but please understand this, when slavery ended there was so much done by whites to keep them poverty-stricken. in fact it was nearly another century b4 segregation laws were overturned. so to say that every race has the same opportunity to succeed is bullshit.

And you're right. The people who were responsible for the pain and suffering of slavery are no longer alive, but the idea still very much is. It isn't as blatant as it was like 50 years ago, but it is still there.

Need an example? I was watching one of those murder cases on court tv. They suspected a black man for the rape and murder of a 9 year old girl. He was later convicted and sentenced to death. They found new evidence in the case which led them to a middle age white male. He was convicted and sentenced to life in prison. The black man was realeased, but why was he put on death row and give the white male life? Was the crime any less heinous? They were about to kill this black man for that crime, but when its the white man they put him behind bars the rest of his life.

Need another one? This one happened to me recently. My cousin and I are walking to the bus stop to go to the mall. A police car pulls over and two white officers stop me and my cousin to question us about an armed robbery 5 minutes from where we were. I took criminal justice courses in high school, so Im no idiot when it comes to police protocol. I asked them what reasonble suspicion did they have to stop us. They said we fit the complexion of the criminals. For those who didnt catch that, they said "we fit the complexion of the criminals". So were we not supposed to be black in front of the police officers? Or are we not supposed to be black in public?

Like I said before, the idea of racism is still strong in this country. Its everywhere. Being white and living in America doesnt automatically make you a racist, but you still have subtle racist beliefs. Either through stereotypes black people and other minorities or through their ignorance of the racism in this country.
