That would be a very good deterrant, wouldnt you agree SA?

It's either you or them. I think you'd choose the latter.

Or, we would simply abolish it completely, which should not be done

Well, most states got rid of it, I think, and so did most of the developed countries (or is all of them? IDK)...

Personally, I think someone would suffer A LOT more spending their life in prison--than getting electrocuted and getting it over with.

Some families of the victim would suffer, too, knowing that the person who murder their kin lives.

Well--
In the end, they aren't making the killer suffer at all. Now he's dead. That's the end of that. Whereas if he spent a life in prison, he would suffer and regret what he did every day of his life. Until the day that he died.

Better dead, than breathing and perhaps enjoying cable TV.

How do you know "he" would suffer? If they can kill, I don't think they'd care very much about regreting it.

I sure am, after taking street law and researching about prisons, I'm pretty sure I have my facts straight, which is more than I can say for some people. laugh.gif laugh.gif wink.gif

let's look at this logically:
what's so horrible with the death penalty?
people are wrong sometimes and they make mistakes, sometimes innocent people including minors are sentenced to death
what's so horrible not having the death penalty?
we are wasting out tax dollars clothing, feeding, and housing people who have done horrible things... it's ok if innocent people die as long as we don't have to pay money to save them... what's one person?

facts from amnestyusa.org

The Texas legislature reduced the budget for the legal defence of death row inmates (of which there are more then 440) from $4 million to $2 million in 1996.

At the end of 1996 at least 47 juvenile offenders were under sentence of death in 15 states; all had been convicted of murders committed when they were 16 or 17 years old

Several of the prisoners executed in 1996 suffered from mental illness or mental retardation.

Several prisoners faced prolonged execution processes; medics took over an hour to complete the lethal injection of Tommie Smith in Indiana, and the electrocution of Larry Lonchar in Georgia was reported to have taken over 45 minutes after the first charge of electricity failed to kill him. <~cruel and unusual punishment

the death penalty.. such a controversial topic...
hmm.. i wrote a paper about that like long time ago.. if i still have it, i'd have posted it up right away.. but sadly, i lost it... damn..
anyway...
the death penalty has it's pros and cons (this is off the top of my head)..
pros:
1. brings justice for victims.
2. lessens criminals on the streets
3. saves tax payers' money to keep criminal alive in prison
cons:
1. government is just doing what the criminals did
2. costs a lot to prepare (materials for lethal injection, staffing, etc)
3. inhumane (electric chair, gas chamber, etc)
err.. i think that's it for now.. i'm for the death penalty, though, cuz i really think that those people deserve what they're getting.. if they didn't commit the crime, he/she wouldn't be facing the death penalty.

life in jail is more preferable to the death sentence because it prevents killing innocent people.

but, the death sentence is a detterant.

no one likes it, but it makes you sleep better knowing that if a person kills you, they will die.

it would be easier to just put everyone in prison, no? like alcatraz. or azakaban.

we need an island.

(death costs more, aud_chua)

let's just let fae eat them.

So? Your point? Have you evidence that life in prison would be cheaper? Oh and might I ask where you obtained your data?

Sorry, I dozed off on this topic.
