So I've never been to a formal dance at school, and a girl asked me today. It's great and all, but the dance is this Friday and I didn't really anticipate this. But I digress.

I don't have the slightest idea what's going to go on, so for all you popular/social people, what the heck happens at a high school formal?

Tips?
Warnings?
What's going on?
What to wear?
What not to do?

Yea i have no idea what's going on and deer in headlights.

Please help! All opinions welcome.

well she's going to wear a pretty dress and heels and all that... sooo

you could either go all out and rent a tux, or you could wear dress pants and sneakers/dress shoes with a plain white tshirt and over that an unbuttoned dress shirt.
^that looks hot when you do it right. _smile.gif

I hated school dances, but basically don't leave her to go dance with someone else and you're money. tongue.gif

Okay, so I'm joking, but really just have fun. I agree with mzbbc about the half dressy/half not thing though.

Okay, know what the attire is for the dance (formal, semi-formal, etc.) I know you said a winter "formal", but that doesn't necessarily mean go all out.

+. If you're not a good dancer, let her lead. Trust me, it will be easier that way. It's okay if you mess up on slow dancing ;)
+. Make sure you're hydrated! Trust me, it gets really hot at dances, so take a few breaks to get water and such.
+. Most importantly, have fun!!

agreeed. i'd say go with a nice button down shirt with nice pants. thumbsup.gif don't button it up all the way, and keep it slightly casual/dressy. it'll look good. happy.gif

wear a bowtie.

you must post pictures.

(don't take my advice for the bowtie unless someone else says it. i've never been to a high school dance. i don't intend to. and if i ever do, it will be to crash prom.)

roffle. bowties? no. absolutely not.

wear a nice buttondown collar shirt (with a tshirt inside)...preferably not white. and black pants.
be polite, dance with her, but as teesa said, if you're not too good or confident, let her lead.
and drink water.

dress formally. since it's winter formal, and girls go ALL out with that stuff.

don't check other girls out when you're with her!
